we go after no one. We now start to rebuild the way real championship teams do - in the lottery.

Yes, his "corporate approach tha game" sucks. He should be approaching it likes it's NOT a business -- his boss would LOVE that.

we have been in lottery for 3 straight years and championshp teams are built mostly through trades

Because treating business like business is always a horrible idea. How would you suggest he approach tha game?

The first step to building a championship team is almost always drafting a superstar.

    Miami - D Wade
    LA - Kobe
    SAS - Duncan Parker Ginobili
    Boston - Paul Pierce

In the NBA these days you have to have a superstar player to attract other stars in free agency.

Maybe we should have a certain number of posts before you're allowed to start threads. All these horrible threads are generally started by new posters.

All the top ten players are locked up, and if any of them become unhappy, they'll probably just want to leap to another Dream team. Tanking is the only sane option at this point, and any other rebuilding strategy should be met with open derision.

Wade won with Shaq via trade
Kobe was traded on draft day from the Hornets for Divac, then once again Shaq comes in the picture
Duncan was the result of a tanked season and Parker and Ginobili were fluke 2nd round gems, which rarely ever happens
And Paul Pierce was on the verge of being traded away himself if it wasn't for Allen and Garnett coming over on trades.

So drafting "Stars" can only get you so far. You have to make the right moves along side them to make a championship team.

True, we are centerless. But, those two centers that were traded away are the types of players that teams trying to compete in the playoffs need. A team like the Rockets needs young players -- unfortunately we don't have those at the center (or point guard) position either.

I'm hoping that the shedding of Martin and Scola can be done with the trade of a forward or two -- maybe Morris, Jones and Patterson -- and that it will bring young point guard and/or center back in. Morey is good at finding diamonds in the rough on other team's rosters, and I hope he can snag a couple during the horse dealing that moves Scola and Martin out.

(note: I am going to miss Scola. I actually hope they can keep him and move Patterson instead. I think he would be a great veteran presence for the youth -- but, realistically, he's gone)

If the nets really had the goods, there would have been about fifty Howard trades done already. Yet for a year now, the Nets still haven't landed Dwight

The 14th pick is not the lottery. It's no man's land.

We need top 5 picks. And multiple ones. Some will bust, some will pan out. But either way, that's the path. Last 3 years have been a waste.

No championship team in the last 30 years was rooted in a trade for a star. It was all rooted in a draft pick or draft day trade for pick.
