Hilarious. Way to set up a straw man. Unless we get Dwight, Morey's a failure, do I have that right? Totally and completely absurd. Cause you know what Orlando is thinking, right? You know what's being offered to Orlando by all the other teams in the mix, including the nets, right? You know exactly what Hennigan is thinking right? Are you sleeping with his sister or something?

Hilarious. Your logic is flawed to say the least.

It has to be. Because this makes absolutely ZERO sense. If Cleveland needs a "draft pick sweetener", it actually means that Humphries has negative value. That is, they wouldn't sign him without one. The entire point of finding a third team for Humphries is to get alternative value for Orlando in the trade instead of Humphries. Here, not only are the Magic not getting value for Humphries... they're actually giving up something themselves!

There are three possible scenarios here. I'll list them in order from most likely to least likely.

1.) It's a leak designed to pressure other teams like the Lakers and Rockets.

2.) Hennigan wants to satisfy Dwight and the NBA power brokers in Dwight's circle by showing he gave heavy consideration to the NJ scenario. In other words, he "tried".

3.) Hennigan is on an Isiah Thomas level of insanity and truly believes that Brook Lopez (at max money) and a couple of late first-round picks is the best proposal for Howard. Given his Presti/OKC pedigree, I think this is extremely doubtful.

In the end, this scenario just doesn't add up. At all.

1%. They have a 1% chance of trading for him. That is if Hennigan goes brain dead.

The Nets have no chance. Their first round picks will be worthless. The Rockets had 3 first round picks this season all top 18 to go along with a lottery pick from Toronto next season. We are in the driver seat my friends.......These reports are just to teams like houston raises their offers.

Good take. Any pick sweetener given to CLE is one less thing available to Orlando.

What they need to find is a team that (1) has sufficient cap room to sign Humphries and (2) is willing to give up a draft pick (or least not ask for anything) to acquire Humphries in a S&T. As you noted, these two things are a contradiction: A team with cap space can just sign Humphries outright. Why would they give up anything to do it or even make their signing a part of a S&T instead of a straight signing? Furthermore, why would they not (as Woj reported that CLE is) demand that they be given somethng to help the Nets out?

The only reason why a third team will give up something to sign Humphries? If they get him at a substantial discount in a S&T compared to a regualr signing. For example, I would give up a 1st rounder for Humphries if he signs for 4 years, $12M with the final year a team option. But why would Humphries take such a discount?

Humphries shares the same agent (Dan Fegan) as Dwight Howard, but I be he isn't happy about being played as a pawn.

From the guy who broke the news of Howard opting in:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Just spoke with a source that tells me that Billy King is "very close" to getting Dwight Howard. And deal could be completed "very soon."</p>&mdash; Jarrod N Rudolph (@JRudolphSports) <a href="https://twitter.com/JRudolphSports/status/222109794041999361" data-datetime="2012-07-08T23:27:56+00:00">July 8, 2012</a></blockquote>

Stunning. I can't believe they are going to pull this off. They are going to trade junk and useless draft picks and get one of the most impactful players in the league for no other reason than because agents are able to scare GMs into doing what they want.

I'm holding out hope until someone legitimate reports that it's close. Rudolph is basically a mouthpiece for Dwight, who undoubtedly wants to ratchet up the pressure as much as he can.

Oh man. Dwight Howard will be the most hated player in all of sports if he gets his way after all this. I hope he never wins a championship.

And that makes it less credible. Alex Kenney and Hoopsworld are the same guys reporting that HOU offer Dragic $8M a year and had a "done deal" to bring him back.

If he gets traded to the Nets I'll be very confused as to how one of the worst teams in basketball had enough ammo to trade for Joe Johnson AND Dwight Howard in the same offseason while keeping their best player (D Will).

2 non-lottery first round picks, 2 future non-lottery first round picks and a pu-pu platter gets you a lot these days if you are based in NY or LA I guess.

I think the power of the agents has been underrated on this board and on the media in general. During the lockout there was talk of the player's union wanting to block the agents from negotiations and there was word that the agents were pushing for decertification and lawsuits. I think the agents have more power than gets reported and it wouldn't surprise me if some of them use threats to influence GMs.

I don't know but I wouldn't rule it out. Why are you so confident otherwise?

I try not to make blanket assumptions and bold assertions unless I am positive about something. Not being in the Magic front office, or being an NBA GM, I wouldn't be able to claim certain knowledge about where Howard is going.
