Hmmm, it means you should not RELY on it though, as a way of stocking your roster.

It means that there is a very low probability of succeeding because your targets are generally going to be players worth keeping.

It is a crappy way to build a team as it is really not successful in most cases.

Let's hope so, no reason to overpay this guy when we're going nowhere.

I like the Asik signing but he wasn't going to make a big difference in us making the playoffs with this roster. I hope they do match, Lin also. The best case scenario was that both the Bulls and Knicks either matched or didn't match. Getting one without the other would just be kind of pointless. Hopefully both matches will force us into tanking.

Ok. Still a positive for the Rockets if they do match, and good for other mid-market teams alike. Much like the Lin NYK RFA situation, this deal makes another large market/high demand team less flexible to make future deals in the next few years.

If these teams are going to have their cake, they need to have teams like the Rockets make sure they cannot feast on the entire portion and help open up possibilities for the mid-market teams to make deals in the future.

I wanted the Rockets to aquire Asik, and think his contract wouldn't be that bad on the Rockets payroll, but Im ok with the Bulls matching at this higher dollar amount. Also opens up the possibility of aquiring Noah if gets put on the market in the future.

If this happens and the Bulls match, could the Rockets hypothetically offer (2) Max deals out?

the rockets still have to operate within the range of the NBA Salary floor, you cant just send out a bunch of rookies and guys on 1 years contracts.. right now with scola and martin the rockets are below the salary floor, so dumping those and not taking in contracts wont work.. and its probably why martin sticks around..

Thp Rockets isn't relying on it. They are also pursuing a defensive center by trade. Dwight Howard.

If there is an unrestricted version of Asik I am sure the Rockets would pursue him. But there isn't.

Also, game not over on Asik. Teams pretty much always say they will match. Let's see what they really do.

Adande's "source" could very well be blowing smoke up his butt just to stabilize the Bulls free agency strategy.

Won't believe it until Woj reports it.

I fully expect the Bulls and Knicks to match offers. Who's left out there?

I was talking to Jason Friedman yesterday on twitter with O.J. Mayo and D.J. Augustin came up but he was opposed to Augustin which I don't get at all cause the season before last he averaged 14ppg and 6apg while starting 82 out of 82 games. He is restricted but with Kemba and Gordon on the team don't really see a place for him there anymore, he is only 24 yrs old. Now Mayo he stated that he would be overpaid but Morey was gonna give Lin 7 a year for 25 games but Mayo has been doing it for 4 yrs consistently and he is 24 or 25....I just don't get it?

I am all for going for Howard and seeing if he has the courage to walk from a larger guaranteed payday.

We shall see, and I don't mind the Rockets chasing them, but it seems that if they are rebuilding there was really no need to go after Asik, he is not going to develop into anything special.

And Morey has stated they want HIGH UPSIDE guys all over their roster - Asik is not it.

Lin might be - but I think we all know that Les is after him to fill up the Toybox because if it were about winning Dragic would have gotten that 4th year and be in Houston.

It is not stupid if they value Asik, they have 2+ years to figure out how to get under the cap and avoid the lux tax, and as so many people here say it is punitive now, but teams forever have had little to no trouble finding ways to get under it.

And the irony is that the salary cap is going up, making it even easier to avoid the lux tax.

    This.

If we are going for a full rebuild, then do not take on players who will make us marginally better. The question is how do you get rid of Scola and Martin's contracts without taken bad contracts? I suppose amnesty is an option for one of them.

Rockets rebuilding. Not tanking. Certainly not planning on tanking for 4-5 straight years. Will chase next star available. Can use elite defensive center now and in the future if/when a star rises internally or is acquired from outside.

Hard to get elite defensive center like Asik any year. Gotta take your shot whenever possible. Also, if Asik stays the same player but gets 30 mpg, he will be nice trade asset.

    Easy to understand. No?
