Ipbman is correct, the card you already suggested is the best for cheap. If you got a BIG screen you'd probably like the 7770 better.

also just checked, i have the box to my power supply its antec 650 watt power, AMD site says 400 watts is recommended for 6670 graphics card, so looks like that should be fine

I recently build an emulator exclusive hyperspin shelled HTPC and I can emulate all the way to PS2 with an c2d e6600 conroe OC'd to 3.0ghz and an 8800gts. I was however going to put in a discrete HD6670, in some situations the 6670 will actually out perform the 7770, so just do some moar homework and see whats best for your bang2buck ratio

lol i'm not exactly sure what this means, i'm not too computer savy. i actually have my friend do my builds...OC'd i'm assuming means overclocked? i dont do any of that.

care to explain that in a more dumbed down version for idiots paragraph?

    http://www.hwcompare.com/11887/radeon-hd-6670-oem-vs-radeon-hd-7770/

here is a breakdown of the 6670 vs 7770.

Every game is different, so you can only generalize the differences. Sometimes there will be a huge difference in performance, sometimes very little. I can't see a situation where the 6670 will ever be faster. Maybe it's faster when emulating a ps2? You won't care about that Flyer...

oh alright. thanks for the link, i'll give it a look

EDIT: oh wow...yea 7770 blows it out of the water. what are your thoughts on what H-town said about power consumption? will my antec 650 watt power supply be fine enough with the 7770?

You'll be fine with power consumption. I wouldn't blink at adding two 7770's with an Antec 650.

The 7770 does indeed blow it out of the water, but on the other hand you've found a great deal on the 6670 at $57 after mir. 6670 gets you into the games playable, 7770 turns on the eye candy. Again without knowing your cpu I'm making generalizations.

yeah, i have seen that in the past, but the problem is, i cant get to it. i'm using a laptop i have now, have been for about a year probably more since this computer i'm looking to get a new graphics card for is screwed up.

basically my monitor goes haywire, its all scrambled at boot and i cant see or do anything. me and my friend basically narrowed it down to the graphics card because we even put in another motherboard and another power supply to see if either of those might be the problem. the problem still persisted. (granted if the new graphics card doesnt work this time around, then i'm really screwed, also again we tried the new mobo/PSU about a year ago if not more)

so basically i cant get you the info about my system with that tool since i wouldnt be able to navigate on that PC i'm trying to get a new graphics card for.

as i said earlier, i was able to play SC2 just fine with this desktop build before the graphics mess up. hence just want to make sure i get a card thats going to work with my PC build, lol.

EDIT: also we tried a different monitor in case you maybe thought that might be it. forgot to mention that. i guess we could plug in another graphics card to see if that works, but then again it would depend on him having one thats compatible with my mobo. if it were to work, we could then d-load that tool since we could then actually navigate on the screen lol, would be able to get the specs.

but it sounds like either of those 2 cards should work with my setup

so think i might order one of the 6670 or 7770 this weekend. i have a 24" Dell monitor that i use. i know someone mentioned earlier in the thread that if i had a big monitor the 7770 might be best, but considering my specs, which might not be up to snuff (again cant get onto the computer to be totally sure), is the safer play just to go with the 6670 or will getting the 7770 make a big bit of difference with the 24" monitor?

Even if your cpu isn't the greatest, you can always use higher res textures as that doesn't mess with your fps much if you're cpu bound. I guess the question is how much would the ~50 dollar difference hurt you if you find your cpu not keeping up? If it means waiting 6 months until your toy budget refilled I'd get the 6670. If you'd just shrug it off and get http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.989642
    *needs cpu cooler

    Then go for the 7770.

thanks man, think i'll just go with the 6670 for now. my next build, whenever that maybe i'll just make sure to go quad core or whatever. i'm sure i'll end up making a post about that anyways when the time comes. that way i make sure to nail it

that and it seems like a good bang for my buck with that MIR sitting there. thanks for the insight

    one last question...

the 6670 should work with my mobo more than likely right? i cant give exact model # of my mobo, but i did find an old post with my old graphics card info, it was a radeon 3800, so googled that, and that series runs on PCI express 2.0

so the 6670 should be fine with that right?

I don't know where that email went lol. I checked both my gmail and yahoo accounts and nada....

Anywho, I'd put it at 99.9% chance of success assuming your mobo/cpu is working properly. There really isn't anything on the surface to go wrong, you won't have a pciex64 slot, you didn't buy a x64 card and I don't think they ever made a 3800 x1 part. You're golden.

lol go to your user cp and see what e-mail you used to sign up. maybe in your spam folder?

anywho... basically i was asking about the motherboard/cpu combo you posted had a few questions:

    1. would the 6670 video card work with that mobo? the 7770 would be better obviously, but would the 6670 work just fine?

    2. what type of RAM does that mobo take? i think i saw DDR3, think the RAM i have in my computer i'm messing with the video card with is DDR2. i assume that wont work with that mobo you posted?

    3. what type of CPU cooler would you recommend if i got that mobo/cpu combo?

just kind of curious as to what i might be looking at price wise to upgrade to that cpu/mobo combo. not likely to happen, but just kind of curious the price range.
