$30 million is not tht much when you consider how much he stands to gain from endorsements in a bigger market. He's waiting for the $300 million dollar contract that Adidas gave Derrick Rose (he and Rose are Adidas' only two basketball superstars) and he has probably heard from their rep already--go to New York. LA is ok too. Chicago is off limits because Adidas can't have both guys in the same city. Orlando is definitely out. And us? Judging by his response to the trade rumors, we must not be too enticing either.

I doubt seriously that the difference in endorsements is $30 million. I doubt it's even close to that. Kevin Durant seems to have no problem finding endorsement money, and he's playing in OKC. He has a shoe deal and pitches for other companies in other industries as well.

Dwight wants his cake and to eat it too...he wants to force a situation where he never has to make the choice on the $30 million. If he gets traded to the Rockets, he's lost that fight in all likelihood.

Iam really sick of reading about dwight not wanting to come here....everyone in the league knows this by now.....WE DONT GIVE A ****!!

This is the NBA you dont just choose where you want to go if you are under contract...he has NO leverage in any trade talks so really to me it doesent matter if he makes up a song about not wanting to come here....if we do get him hes coming weather he likes it or not period..

To be fair to Pau, it was more about leaving LA, where he had built a nice life, than anything against Houston. I believe he later even came out and said that he had since warmed up to the idea of being moved. He didn't mean any disrespect to our city as far as I know.

Regardless of how much he could make in endorsements in a big market, apparently whatever the amount is he stands to lose (20 mil or 57 mil), it was enough for him to opt in with Orlando for another year to get it.

If this were Hold'em, we'd know his whole cards before the river card because he tip off everyone with how he bet the turn.

What if he pulls a Scottie Pimpen. Which am sure is likely.

Then, again, he has to leave about $30 million on the table to leave. His alterative is to pout and moan and not play hard...and risk losing the prime of his NBA career doing so.

"I'm sick of hearing about it, I'm sick of hearing about it"

Well you're gonna be sick about hearing all the BS that goes with a 30 win season too.

If we can get him for 2012-13, we can make a playoff run.

If he is the leader of a good group of young players that has some success that will inspire him to stay.

If we make him the host and centerpiece of the All Star game maybe his ego will come around on Houston.

We'd have SnT options at the trade deadline though probably not with Brooklyn.

A contending team might give up something big just to rent him for a playoff run 2012, desperately if their center goes down.

We are Orlando's only rental trade option, we don't have to do it or we can do it, so the price should not be prohibitive. Don't get too worked up over it, we are OK either way.

Agree completely. The other issue - of all of these supposed "endorsement hotbeds" relative to Houston, exactly zero will have the cap room to sign him next summer. New York, LA, Chicago, Miami... not a single team in that group with the ability to sign Dwight.

The thing is the moves to lose Dragic, Lowry and Lee for almost nothing were made in order to obtain Howard, so at this point, if it does not happen, that was all for nought.

In other words, it better happen now, or else those losses will be even much much more painful and harder to stomach.

Dwight Howard is NOT Kevin Durant.

I am all for doing whatever it takes to bring Dwight here but there better be a plan for getting a leader because Dwight is not a leader. Kevin Durant is a leader. KD keeps his team focused on winning. KD doesn't whine and cry about coaches or cities or teams or his contract. KD doesn't care where he wins he care about WINNING.

Even if we get Dwight we need our KD, Hakeem, Kobe, Jordan, and after these last finals you could say Lebron. These are the players that get you Championships not whiners like Dwight.

Losing in the finals may be the worst thing that could have happened to the rest of the league because KD is going to be pissed all season long.

Huh? For starters, Lee hasn't gone anywhere. And the "loss" of Lowry was because it was a damn good trade - especially if no Howard. If Dwight doesn't come, the future of the Rockets is much brighter with a Toronto lottery pick than a placeholder like Lowry at PG to keep you in .500 range.

Yes, because Kobe Bryant never complains about his teammates or coaches. Funny how "championship leaders" always seem to be the guys on the most talented teams... interesting how that works out.

Not saying I 100% disagree with you and MadMax but....

    * Does Brooklyn qualify as an "endorsement hotbed"?
    * Does "LA" only mean the Lakers? Because the Clippers will still have some $ even after re-singing CP3
    * Howard will be UFA...could winning be more important than the money? (See Clippers 2013).
    * Howard has the ability to force an SnT from HOU. Is what you're bringing back better than what you sent out?

My point is this. I have very little opinion in the acquisition of DH. There are pluses and minuses on both sides of the ledger. But ignoring the existence of "media hotbeds" does seem to fly in the face of the goal of the new CBA.

Didn't Durant have the most endorsements this past season? Holed up in the media hot bed of OKC

We're not winning the non-superstar team up way.

This post is to all the trade for DH no matter what because he will not leave money on the table people. So we get him and his back is healthy and all of you are correct and he does sign a long term max contract not wanting to lose any money. What exactly happens to our team when he starts b****ing and whining to the media demanding to be traded? Is that conducive to a good team atmosphere? Do you think we will ever when a championship when our superstar is unhappy and constantly whining like we see him doing now? This is exactly why Orlando is going to get rid of him. Do you think he is just going to all the sudden be happy here when he has made known so many times he wants to be in Brooklyn? I just don't get this.
