Most people really liked Lowry and Martin. Everybody just overreacts. Lowry and Martin are good players. I would want both back if we had DHoward. Dragic/Lowry would be a tough call. A lot to like about both. It is tough.
no what we did here was trade a top 12 pg on a great salary for a crappy mid to late round lottery pick that we will most likely not use in a trade...and draft terrence ross/patrick patterson 2.0 would u trade lowry for either straigt up? Last year we were turning down pau gasol..now were happy with another rotation player with "high upside" ... The nets got d will because they had a top 2 pick in favors and looked tobe top 5 picks a while. we had 3 lotto picks and that didnt get us howard did it?
We had 1 lotto picks. None in the top 10. We will either trade the pick, or hope for a top 10 pick. I wouldn't. Would I trade Lowry for Myers Leonard/Jeremy Lamb/Andre Drummond? Yes. Not saying any of those guys will be better than Lowry, but Lowry is a role player on a championship team. Here he was our best player, and that just isn't good.
Some of you were expecting too much. An almost guaranteed lottery pick is fair value for a top-15 PG who's reached his ceiling. Y'all were more than willing to give him up for the #8 a week ago, but now we got trade-raped? Try not to be so short-sighted.
WOULD THE crybabies be more happy if we got Jose Calderon or Jerryd Bayless back in the deal? Because those 2 are worth negative value.
The way I always felt was if you have a player in the top 5 at his position his trade value would be two top 5 picks. A top 10 player would be worth a lottery pick. If you ask me we got fair value for Kyle.
This completely ignores the time value of an asset. We're getting a pick next year - most likely, maybe later - not this year, which by now would have already been chosen. It may not matter that much relative to a potential trade of that pick, but it still lessens its value. As an aside, this is why many wanted to tank THIS year.... the time value of rebuilding. It takes time, pro-tankers completely understand that. Instead, we've pushed everything out a year, and continue to push it out farther by trading current assets for future assets. Also this isn't a guaranteed #8 pick. It could be worse. It could be better, but it could be worse.
Your last condisending comment aside, I think I was one of those people who was expecting too much. I have started to warm to the Lowry trade. I still don't think the pick will end up being the equivalent of the #8 pick in this past draft; I think it's gonna be a late lotto pick, but I've come around to the fact that as an asset, converting Lowry to a late lotto pick only increases desirability of the asset, since draft pick value is almost always artificially higher than non-star player value. Also, Now teams that already have a pg would have interest in the asset. Clutch's analogy was almost correct. For me it's like converting $25 Macy's gift card into $25 cash; and that truly is a good thing in the rockets present circumstances.
I've been thinking about the "time value of an asset" question, and it's a tricky one. While sooner is usually better, there's also a time horizon aspect to this question. It's also a tricky thing in the NBA with the way the draft works. A 13th pick this year is likely a good rotation player in time. An 5th pick 3 years later is more likely to have all-star potential. The time value piece only really matters in that you're waiting a few more years to have a piece to the puzzle. Given that rebuilding takes a few years, I'm not sure time value matters.
Should be able to see him later this month in the Olympics playing for Spain. Sounds like he will play SG even though he plays the point in euroleague. http://www.realmadrid.com/cs/Satell...sional_Spain_roster_for_the_Olympic_Games.htm
BTW, the Spain Olympic Squad will also have Jose Calderon, Rudy Fernandez, Pau Gasol, Marc Gasol, and Serge Ibaka.
Potentially got fair value. You don't know what you will get. Many lottery picks don't pan out. What has dm got with his money ball asset building stat crunching.....nothing.
