He's still a darn good defender. He can make a contending team really strong, especially if they get him at cheap Chauncey Billups waiver amount.
So it does have something to do with timing and teams? People here automatically assume expiring contracts have value and if they player does work out we can just flip them (see Asika thread). I've stated, and will continue to state, that large expiring contracts are hard to move and it's luck and timing that moves them for something of value. You are more likely to eat an expiring than trade it and this becomes increasing true on larger contracts. Oh and next year's FA is nice so you must have to have something golden to move a large expiring.
18ppg 9rpg and 2bpg... that's freaking insane for a 6'8 pf especially at his age. I didn't know brand was THAT good.
For coming off some pretty bad injuries, he has had a good career. I think he's more durable now. I could see him fitting a better Juwan Howard role somewhere. If we need some vet leadership, I'd be interested. God knows this team needs some leadership somewhere. Kyle's gone, Camby's gone, Goran's gone, Courtney's gone, Sammy's gone... Kevin McHale sure as hell doesn't have leadership qualities. The only guy left standing that's been through it all is Scola, and Morey is treating him like a piece of garbage. So far, this offseason= Morey/Effin McFail/Les may have created an environment that no player wants to be in voluntarily.
Elton Brand didnt get a max contract for nothing (that is his career average, not his last year's numbers.)
13-7 guy with the Sixers, his scoring efficiency went into the toilet, and he's 33. Upside is that he's strong and difficult to move in the post, downside is that anyone with length and shoot over him all day. But he and Antwan Jamison would make sense for Morey's "plan"
