Imagine that we strike out on Dwight... What will we do next? If we give away Scola and Martin, and get Asik, while Lin is kept in NYK after they match... How much cap room will we have? And depending on the amount... who will go after in free agency if we strike out on Dwight? Will we have room for maybe Monta Ellis, Al Jefferson and Josh Smith? Thoughts? Debate please.
This is something I enjoy, salary cap work, I do it for the NFL teams, but not 100% sure on how the NBA works, but I'll give it a try. Right now, from what I have gathered, of course Bima can confirm or correct this info, we have the following signed for 2013-2014 season. Luis Scola- $10,224,622 Patrick Patterson - $3,150,302 Marcus Morris - $1,987,320 Gary Forbes - $1,500,000 (Team Option) Donatas Motiejunas - $1,185,600 Chandler Parsons - $926,500 Greg Smith - $884,293 Courtney Fortson - $884,293 Diamon Simpson - $884,293 That accounts for a total of $21,627,223 Then some of the draftees unsigned counts for the following, again according to various sites I have gathered info from. Jeremy Lamb - $1,759,300 Royce White - $1,432,900 Terrence Jones - $1,292,200 A total of $4,485,400 Then we can tender Jone Leuer as a RFA at $1,084,293 We would be at $27,196,916 committed, with all the above. Of course not counting possible additions like Asik if Chicago decides to not match, or if somehow NYK decide to let Lin go. And not sure what the cap will be, it's around $58.044M this year, so not sure how much it goes up each year.
If Chicago doesn't match Asik, I wonder how difficult it would be to move Asik should he underperform with that $15 salary in his 3rd year. The 15 is what would count against the receiving team's cap.
We can amnesty Scola if by some miracle we trade for Dwight and then CP3 wants to sign with us next summer. I.E. Jopatmc dream scenario version 2.0.

You shouldn't start a thread if you have no intention of doing even the minimum amount of research. Seriously, this thread should read "Hey guys, I'm too lazy to look up a lot of information that is all available on the internet. Do it for me, immediately." I wouldn't even be giving you a hard time if you had at least provided a link to the 2013 free agency class - which isn't hard to find - and left the cap issues to people with a better understanding of it.
Well, next years free agency crop sure beats this years by a lot. Not to mention the punitive luxury tax kicks in. Should be interesting.
Dwight Howard part 2. We'll get him next summer according to moary. I saw him at the drive thru. He told me all about it.
Tough to answer, If we get Dwight we could go for a PG, or if no Dwight, then Josh Smith. Also Amnestying Scola would be an option, but I can't understand why no one trades for him, rather keep Scola than Amnesty him.
The question was not "What free agents are there"... It was "Given the cap room that we may have, what free agents would you realistically go after?"
WTF? I thought you were rookiefied. That didn't last long. Anyway, I'm not really looking forward to the rockets always looking for a quick and possibly temporary fix. Just build it the right way.
