How many player options have you seen Morey give to the players he's signed? If you've noticed, every contract on our roster has a team option, if any. I guess it's a control issue.... But if you have two similar players like Lin & Dragic with one asking for a player option, the other willing to take a team option... who would you choose to deal with?
Johnathon Feigen said this yesterday on 790 so why is everyone surprised about the player option thing..yea dragic wanted the player option on the 4th year and the rockets didnt want to do that. Now lin in his 4th year has the team option thats the difference. I just wish we couldve granted dragic that I dont see what the big deal is.
Please don't take some of these posters too seriously. The thing is, if you had posted that Morey didn't have time to get back to you or got an assistant to do so as he was busy, the same posters would also crucify Morey for being heartless, happy to trade one season ticket holder for another, AND for not getting Le$ to tank (these poster like to go off topic ). Personally, I thought it was a sincere gesture for Morey to call back (at the very least it was the right thing to do), and better still that you were willing to share it with us despite knowing there will always be haters that will ridicule.
I think the 4th year being team option allows flexibility as Asik got a 3-year deal, Luis got 3 years left (3rd year lower buyout though), and D-Mo should get a 3-year deal, and the 4th year of the 1st round picks this year aren't guaranteed. Just preserving flexibility. Will the flexibility really be useful? Don't know, but I'd rather my GM thought ahead.
keep in mind, dragic is not the cornerstone of rox. in a few years, what rox looks like is an unknown issue. if we are lucky to get a foundation, dragic may have to be moved. morey must forsee the next 2 or 3 years is the transition period. rox needs to have big surgery to get back to an elite team.
Its all good !!...I knew when I posted this story people would question it. I even thought to myself while talking to him that I would post this as soon as I got off the phone. But I wasn't going to ask Daryl if I could record our conversation as proof to some people who doubt me:grin: I should have asked him to use Skype or Facetime!! I know most people are just joking around which is cool with me......and I do agree with you that his call was sincere and he meant it as a goodwill gesture...
It is a remarkable story. GM phones ST holder and chats for 20 minutes. As to the several pages of reaction -- was the world this cynical before the internet?
If they were both unrestricted then yeah obviously the one with team option. But as it stands now we wont have a PG if Knicks match. Huge risk.
"Fools only go where angels fear to typo." Be very careful with your next post. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/80SSXCgdCuU?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
What i'd like to know is, why did Morey pick this specific caller to talk to? Did no one else complain? Was this guy the most upset? Morey just happened to be around the operator who answered?
How does the OP know it was Daryl Morey on the phone vs an intern who can talk like him? I heard the intern impersonators who they hire man the disgruntled-fans phone bank, and only the happy fans who call in talk to the real Daryl?
I'm sure a lot of people are wondering about that and its a valid question..unfortunately I.don't know why he picked me...yes I'm a long time season ticket holder but I don't have club seats or a Corp. suite..just 2 tickets on the lower level...but I usually do all their surveys, attend the season ticket holder functions etc..but perhaps you are right in saying that maybe Morey was standing right there when I called...I won't disclose who I talked to at the rockets organization but it was just somebody not in upper management....I'm sure it was pure luck but ill take it....its something that I really appreciated from him and like I'm sure most people realize is not the norm in the sports world...
Again, it won't be the difference between signing the next Mark Jackson. It's more like signing the next Mugsy Bouges, without the height issue.... Either way the guys we're choosing from aren't too many tiers away from each other; Lin, Dragic, Lowry, Brooks, etc. I won't sweat it too much if Lin get matched and in fact I'm not sweating it if Asik gets matched. The ones that will really be sweating are the Bulls and Knicks in the next few years.
Why are some of you guys acting like Morey is freakin Barack Obama? Why is it such a stretch that a season ticket holder got to speak to a nerdy NBA basketball general manager on the telephone??? This is not difficult to believe. Morey isn't Elvis Presley or Tupac, he's just a GM of a basketball team. ****, I sat at a blackjack table all night with Bob Sura in Vegas before, that's probably much less believable than moneyball morey talking to some random season ticket holder on the telephone.
