The Lowry trade for a lottery pick tells me we are going after Dwight....still.

Oh, for christ's sake, I hate this Dwight Howard plan! I want to say it's just a ridiculous conspiracy theory, but after today's Lowry mind *****... there HAS to be something else going on.

Yes, I'd rather rebuild. It's a good time to do it, too. Let all of the "super teams" get old and go broke. While they're doing that, we can quietly put together a real *****ing dynasty.

I really admire what OKC has done. It's far more rewarding to win with a team built from the ground up than win with a team you bought and shoe horned together. I hate the Cs, the Heat and the Knicks for that very reason. I don't even like watching the, play really.

    My biggest question is.....

How does a Dwight trade with poison pill contract affect our cap and the related offers to Asik and Lin?

    Scenario:
Let's say that our trade proposal for Dwight had us taking back much more salary than we send out (50% rule applies). This would most probably eat into the salary cap that we are using to offer contracts to Asik and Lin. If the trade occurred before the contracts were signed and confirmed (e.g. not matched or matched - July 14th deadline) would this potentially make those contracts void?

Does Morey know this and has trades in place that HAVE TO wait until the RFA contracts are settled?

Follow my train of thought... Morey thinks we can get Dwight to stay, Dwight will be a free agent next year if he doesn't sign a long term contract with anyone else. Wouldn't it make more sense to retain our assets and try and make a run for him when he's unrestricted? Rumors are rampant he won't stay with the rockets anyways...

Then again I'm probably missing something...

If he wont stay with the Rockets it doesn't matter when we get him now does it.

If he's here and becomes an unrestricted free agent, we can offer him the extra year/money.

If we retain our assets and make a run at him next offseason, we're still the same mediocre team that no superstar wants to play for.

By trading for him now, we can offer him the most guaranteed money on a new deal. There is no chance he would sign here as a free agent. Hopefully that's accurate...

As a franchise.... you gotta embrace both ways if you get a chance.....
Small markets can't really attract top tier superstars so they have to groom them
They would do the same if they could

Who cares....tell Orlando to screw themselves. We keep our young, high-upside players while they are stuck with Hedo, Richardson, etc.

The other big factor against LA, is the Magic would have to convince Bynum to stay in Orlando as we'll, considering he is an unrestricted free agent at the same time Howard will be, and the Lakers gave up all their upcoming picks to the Suns for Nash.

If the Rockets do go for a Dwight Howard deal, trying to recruit CP3 next year seems like the best case scenario. Using the same tactic as the Nets did with deron Williams and convincing Paul to come join Howard. But there certainly are risks. Who knows how long Howard will take to "rehab" from surgery if he is on a team he doesn't want to play for? We would also be giving up a lot of assets for the "privilege" of being in the same situation the Magic are currently trying to get themselves out of. However, unlike the Magic we should have the cap space to add another star, and I believe by then Howard's preferred destination ie the Nets, will no longer have the cap space to flat sign Dwight when he becomes unrestricted. In that sense, Dwight extending with Orlando did the Rockets a favor. Miami had the cap space for Lebron and Bosh, so sign and trade or else had more weight. If the only way Howard can go to the Nets is via trade, then there is no threat of him leaving you to go play for them when he becomes unrestricted. The question is what other teams that Dwight might prefer more will have cap space still by the time next summer comes along?

I'm assuming this is credible for two reasons.

    1) It's the Lakers chasing a star player.
    2) See 1.

If you read it it actually just says a player was informed he was involved in a "possible deal". Then he posts a different tweet about how the Lakers are interested in Dwight.

I started a thread last week in the dish about all the whining that will happen when Dwight goes to the lakers. I knew he'd go there from day 1. Just a matter of time folks.
