I keyed in on that as well. I think Morey is disingenuous. It might have played a part, but how is the option itself a dealbreaker? I guess he can't can't come out and claim that Dragic wasn't worth the money, because nearly everyone thinks 7.5-8 was FMV. He'd risk becoming a blurb on ESPN and solidifying his reputation of lowballing players. Plus, I thought I read somewhere that they gave JLin a player option. Why not Dragic?

The Rockets have always been reluctant to give player options on contracts. Just go back and look at every contract that they've signed over the last 6-7 years. The only one with a player contract is Yao Ming's.

Very classy move by the Rockets organization and Daryl, especially considering how busy he is right now. dreammvp is indeed a longtime season ticket holder (check his posts). There also is nothing controversial in there and what he said Daryl said is perfectly in line with what the Rockets are thinking.
JLin got a team option. Dragic got the player option from the suns. Its clear no one wanted to guarantee him 4 year. It was reported that Morey offered a partial guarantee of the 4th year as a compromise. Dragic went with player option. Why we dont want to give the player option: the player option is only good for the player, it will only be exercised if he isnt good enough to get more as a free agent, which means you would obviously be over paying him in the 4th year. Its also less attractive in trades. Obviously we didnt want to guarantee 4th year money, Asik and Lin are only offered 3 guaranteed years as well so obviously morey has his eye on 3 years from now for some reason, so it was a no go for us.

I do. If 1 extra year would land us Dragic, we would have gotten Dragic signed. It's much more than that, maybe they are not that high on Dragic at all --- then it doesn't explain why we dumped Lowry for draft picks.
Somebody go look and post who are the FA's in 3 years. If there's some prominent names then maybe that team vs player option does loom large.
Dreammvp, unlike a lot of people in this thread, I believe you. No sarcasm--I seriously do believe you got through to Daryl Morey. It's a shame you can't prove it, but still...anyway, a GM taking time out of his stressful day to talk to a fan personally? That's awesome. He's already far, far better than that loser from Ocean Marketing. Yes, this offseason has been rough...but I also believe that the Houston Rockets organization reads this board, and knows just how frustrated a lot of you are. Yes, it sucks that we're losing not only veterans, but young guys like Dragic. However, due to the way the lottery works, he knows that you have to "get bad to get good." But so many of you who WANTED us to tank...are now angry that we're tanking. Deal with it, people. Just like diet and exercise for the body, you have to suffer for a while to become healthy. You can't risk falling back into your old habits. The team was mediocre, and you whined. The team wants to get a high pick, and you whine. Screw that. It's one year. All it takes is one player to turn a team around. But if you chase two rabbits, you will catch neither. And now we are focused on one goal. So let's GET THERE.
