Is starting to rebuild a good idea?

The team as it stood was running on max potential. If we rebuild correctly, it won't take 5 years to get back where we are. In 5 years we'll probably be better off than if we'd just stayed the course.

You may be right . I just don't wish to be a Washington/ Charlotte debacle for 2-3 years.People don't realize what killed us was Yao's injuries

I think this is an on the fly rebuild and tank job. We lost some pretty good players in Lowry, Dragic, Dalembert and Lee (pending). However, we have more cap flexibility, some pretty promising draft pics and still are still hell bent on getting Dwight. Seems like Houston is trying to land a superstar, and surround him with young diamond in the rough players to grow with. I think we let Dragic walk to let Lin (pending), a slightly younger, more popular point guard grow with this team (and bring in some additional recognition/marketability). A disgruntled Lowry, for future draft pics (top 4 protected in the 2013 draft) shows that Morey will still want to rebuild in the draft, or simply have draft picks for potential trade assets. So I think Houston is surely trying to find an unconventional way to be relevant now and in the future.

Hate to bring this up but look at the Yao situation. We had the right pieces ready to contend and our "superstar". When Yao went down, there was really no promising stud to replace him. If we happen to land Dwight and he bolts or breaks down, we wouldn't have to go through the 3 year mediocrity period again, necessarily. There could be a player presently on the team that could evolve into a star (Lamb, White, Jones, Motiejunas, Lin), which would speed up the rebuild process if needed. I have an odd feeling that this will somehow work. Let's see what happens by July 11th, better yet, lets wait til the season kicks off!

I'm actually anti-tanking but I get it. By continuing to do what we've been doing, we're only delaying the inevitable. Maybe we squeak into the playoffs as a low seed, but actually doing anything past that is unlikely and a championship is out of the question. We'd be forced to rebuild eventually.

I don't like tanking because there's a serious chance of going to the bottom and staying there. Hopefully Morey knows what he's doing and we can rebuild quickly, but nothings a given. Given the choice, I'd rather be mired in mediocrity than be a bottom feeder for the next decade, which is definitely the risk you take by going this route.

If it takes 2-3 of sucking, I'm fine with it. If it turns into 5-7 years of sucking then that's a different story.

In the end, the Rockets are in a bad position. There's at least a better chance of building a consistent winning franchise through the draft, but I think it's going to be more painful than most people here realize.

I have no doubt that the Rockets and Morey have made every possible attempt to improve our team thru FA & trades, but it just has not gone their way. Now it looks like the Org. has decided to rebuild from the ground up.

Could we get a 1st rd pick for KMart & then 1 for Scola? Then go into next years draft with 4 1st round picks or 2 next year and 3 the year after that. Which could turn us around rather quickly.

Agree. Now have two lottery picks next year plus this years picks and expiring contracts. All this to work a trade with. All depends on what Lakers do. If not we have a bunch of youngs players to get excited about over the next couple years.

Neither of them WERE the best players on our team. Dragic was our best player but now hes gone. Our best players were young. Lee was playing better then martin, more all around of a player. Scolas game is more finesse so age doesn't hurt him as much, but he would have been our only old people had we kept fighting for that big.

Stockpiling random draft picks won't make things go any quicker. We could do that without tanking. We need HIGH draft picks, ones with the potential to draft an impact players. As will be evidenced by our most recent draft, mid-low first rounders, the kind of picks you may get for Martin and Scola, ain't gonna get it done.

I didn't say they WERE, I said that right now they ARE the best players on the roster.

I shared your hope as well, at least until this past season. I feel Morey is the right man to find great role players to bolster star players. This why he was brought in here. Once our stars broke down, Morey is definitely the wrong man to be in charge when attempting to attract stars. I'm afraid he may also not be good at rebuilding a team when his Dwight fantasy evaporates. But that's yet to be determined.
