So for three years we've been quite mediocre. This last year I think we were the best we've been in that span and would of made the playoffs if Mchale had made better lineup decisions down the stretch. We would of lost in the first round regardless but thats an improvement. We were a playoff team a piece or two away from being a serious threat. It was our first year with the dragon who looked great for us, all signs pointing to him being our point guard of the future. We already had financial flexibility. We had 3 first round picks in the draft to further improve the team. We had two players in Lowry and Martin who we could trade for picks next year or that missing player. To me it seemed we were already at one of the final stages of rebuilding and we just blew it all up to start all over again. One big man away from being a threat, now we need a whole new team. I am angry as could be over this and am hoping one of you could explain to me how this is a good idea.
5 star poll. Will vote again. But seriously. One or two pieces away from contending? That would insinuate we already have a superstar on the roster and we were looking to add complimentary players (aka pieces).
We were trying to rebuild on the fly. It wasn't working so now we're blowing things up and starting from scratch. We weren't in the final stages of anything. The team wasn't going to go anywhere unless they got a major impact player. They tried to do that for 3 years and failed. They tried to do that to start the offseason and failed again. So now they're taking a different approach to getting that impact player, trying to get them through the high lottery.
OP is right. We were just a piece or two away from being a serious threat. The pieces? Dwight Howard and Lebron James.
I am not 100% this is a rebuilding plan. They still have maueverability to get Dwight + another piece here. We will know 100% once we see what happens with Scola/Martin
Our assets got old. Plain and simple. We've been trying to do something for 2 years. During that time players got older and/or peaked. They're "starting over" because other teams don't want a 30 yr old scola to rebuild around. We have to tempt them with young players and picks.
Rockets snookered you! This is just what they wanted you to think. "We're a piece or two away! Let's stay the course, keep with it, and we'll be [serious] contenders!"
This. Until Morey has assured me he is not 100% completely inept I can never underestimate him pulling a full r****d.
So in other words , we are about 5 years away from being where we already were. I agree with the original poster 100%
I don't think they are tanking...yet. They have a man crush on Howard and will trade anything they have, including nice picks and young players, for the reward of DH even though it comes with a high risk flight in 1 year. Planned tanking is actually not as bad as people here make it. However the tanking we may be in for is unplanned and those kinds of tanks can be very ugly. And if this goes like all of Morey's other plans so far, then it's not going to be pretty.
NOT TANKING fast rebuild free up cap space. who is going to be a free agent next year and is going to have cap space
Well I for one am glad we can fully tank 4 real. Was getting sick and tired of all the little wussies whining bout how we were just floating n not going anywhere. Now I can here them whining bout how we r worst than the Bobcats........nice change of pace
NOBODY wants to come here. Sorry, what part of that don't you get. {I don't know why I said "here" , since I live in OKC. } Good Lord , I can 't stand being around Thunder fans. Hey, you can remove the car flags, you lost.
hard to fathom the moves thus far. i'm neither an apologist or hater of DaEel, but i don't think he's crazy. if we're committed to building through the draft (aka tank) Lin & Asik make zero sense. have to believe i'm not privy to the full picture.
Im new here so excuse me if I messed up the poll. I dont even know if I can edit my original post to say this. But anyway i see none of you agree with me. You guys really dont think if we had per say Pau Gasol we wouldnt be a threatening team? At least better then Denver maybe worse then Memphis. Dragic Clee Parsons Scola Pau is a pretty good starting 5 is u ask me. But my point is even though we havnt gotten that star in the last three years, we now still have to get that star, plus an entire team. We always have a good draft whos to say we wouldnt have gotten one in the draft the next year or even this year. Or maybe we had an even better season this year with the same team to draw interest to free agents
Not to mention that the best players remaining on the roster (Martin and Scola) are getting older, breaking down, and regressing. Even if we have money to throw at people, there's no longer a supporting cast. If we sign a star, it'll be a star with scrubs and the team still won't be very good.
