Trade Scola and KevMart for Hedo and future pick. Orlando would be competing again and we offload vets while gathering picks for rebuilding.
If he can get it from US, then he can walk away from the Magic. If he comes to us, he can't walk away from us and get it from anyone else. It's not that hard a concept. And LOL at the people just assuming that the NBA would allow an owner to pay a player under the table. There are, you know, RULES about that sort of thing. And if it is endorsements Howard wants, I think there are a few hundred million fans in China who may be able to help with that. What, don't you people WANT to be good sooner than later? Tanking is NOT fun, and it is no guarantee of ever really getting better. Heck, Stern had to screw us just to make the perennially-tanking Clippers halfway decent.
My point is if he won't walk away from the money then why is Orlando try'ing to trade him.....they have Bird Rights....30Million that you mentioned....
Because, he doesn't want to BE there, and he can still get the full amount from US. Hello? He loses nothing by coming here. He DOES lose if he walks away from us.
To give him away for a package like this after apparently having been "asking for the moon for him", our relationship with him must have really been beyond repair. I was hoping they'd kiss and make-up, and we'd have ended up with the best starting PG of the available 3 (Lowry/Dragic/Lin). Everyone seems to have forgotten just how good Lowry was pre-bacterial infection.
Lol...everyone follows the rules right? Man many people think Stern doesn't follow the rules himself. There really is nothing stopping that from happening except a "Please don't do this." programs do this all the time in college and you never know it MAY start happening in the NBA with the new rules on resigning and the bird rights. Also I doubt the China thing appeals to him and I also doubt that him playing for the Rockets is going to make him a big star in China because most of the big time NBA players already are. Thing is, if you are not the Lakers or Knicks then you are likely going to tank eventually. It's seemingly inevitable. It's a cycle, life life and death. Good teams become bad and bad teams become good. Wasn't long ago that the Pistons were a powerhouse...now they are trying to get back there. I think most of us just don't want to waste prospects like White, D-mo, and Lamb in a one year rental of Dwight.

You are clearly missing the point. All we have to do is out-bid Brooklyn (which we can) and Brooklyn is off the table for Dwight. They can't sign him next summer. They can only hope to trade for him now. You're comment about LeBron shows that you need to do some research about the new CBA as well.
Scheduling that dentist appointment for July 5th at 1pm seemed like a safe bet at the time. This is a move still geared for the Dwight Howard pursuit. He's still their #1 option. I think a pick like that with a lot of potential could be a better piece in a Howard trade than Lowry -- depends on what Orlando wants to do, but if they do want a jumpstart to a full rebuild, I think Houston got stronger here in that trade pursuit.
Sure this is a more attractive piece in a trade offer... but we can't seriously still be chasing that unicorn, can we? I mean, we'll ALWAYS have our door open... but tell me we're not wasting time making this "Plan A".
So next year we will try to sign a player to max dollars who doesn't want to be here.....i dont have a crystal ball but i know where this is headed...he will probably sign but is going to be a thorn in our butts the entire time he's here...
Rockets could always outbid Brooklyn if they acquire Dwight. That's really not the point. The point is he doesn't want to play here, that's always been the point. This is why most teams not named the Rockets have stayed away from Dwight. They know it is silly to acquire a player who doesn't want to come play for their team, who will whine and moan while playing for your team, clash with his coach, and maybe even draw out his injuries to play as little games as possible for your team. Dwight doesn't want to play in Orlando and look what has happened there. Full-circus mode. Not really. I just forgot that Lebron was traded.
hasn't this always been "Plan A"? what has really changed since we started the pursuit over a year ago?
They're definitely pursuing him still, yes. But their view is the same in this move as it was in trying to trade up on draft day -- even if we don't get Dwight, we're content with this move to keep or trade for the next franchise cornerstone we can get in a trade.
Do you think the timing of us moving Lowry and Nelson re-signing with the Magic is pure coiencidence?
