Assuming for the moment that the report is true, that this pick is intended for adding to the Howard trade, what would be the bare minimum pieces we would need to retain in order to have a viable team around Howard this upcoming season? Let's also assume, just for the heck of it, that Lin joins the team as well. And Asik, why not? So we have a starting 5 of : Lin ?? ?? ?? Howard We have plenty of 4's to choose from, we can't send them ALL to Orlando, so, let's say, Patterson starts. Can we keep Parsons? Dear God I hope so. And let's say we keep Lamb as well. Starting 5 of Lin Lamb Parsons Patterson Howard I'm not smelling Tank here guys. Even if NYK match Lin, looks like it may be Brooks again, or any of the other PG's that they say the agents are lining up for. But even Brooks Lamb Parsons Patterson Howard That team is a playoff team in the West. A lot of it depends on how much we can keep of our young guys, which is probably crucial considering we have no guarantees that Howard stays. So hopefully we can keep Donuts and maybe White. So you've got maybe Asik, Livingston, Leuer, Morris, Donuts and White on the bench, and whatever else to fill in the gaps, like we do every year. And that's assuming Scola and Martin are actually gone, they may not be. Heck, Chi can even match Asik and it won't hurt that bad, grab Camby or someone to back up Howard. How does this one sound? Brooks Martin Parsons Scola Howard with lamb and Patterson coming off the bench, Morris, White, hopefully Donuts.. If they can pull this off.... hoo boy.
No, they just pulled his qualifying offer that was making him a restricted free agent. The Rockets (as of now) still own Lee's Bird rights and have his cap hold on their books. The amount of the Lin offer sheet could change that, however. But they can keep him on the books to make the Asik offer sheet at least.
If Morey can pull that off then I will stop SMH every time someone post that pic of him in a thread (SMH now just thinking about it). However, like everyone says about Howard, will Chris walk away from his Bird cash and leave LA to play with Houston's rag tag team and DH?
lowry wanted out, already the rockets lose leverage. they trade him for a future lotto pick... that's pretty damn good for what we gave up to get him. so what if its not conveyed next year? next year's draft is supposed to be weak anyway.
To everybody that says we should not pursue Dwight Howard and that we should move Martin and Scola for draft picks...... I was in agreement with you all to bring in all these young players and picks but understand this would be very difficult to do. Realize that there is a minimum salary that NBA teams must pay for the players one their roster. Basically Rockets can't only have all young cheap players because they have to use 85% of the salary cap otherwise face harsh penalties.
I think you are losing perspective with all these rooks basically defecating on the GARM...everyone you just named is a role player. if there is one thing you can't knock Morey on, it's his ability to manufacture these types of players out of seemingly nothing. just because Clutchfans has the collective attention span of a gnat doesn't mean Morey's focus has changed. this team is going after Howard and always has been.
Sorry but i'm getting tired of the word "assets".....how much "assets" can we have if we continuosly keep getting rejected by ALL the superstars in the league....
Not sure if this has been caught yet...but ESPN is now reporting Lowry has been traded for that 1st round pick PLUS Gary Forbes. http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8132460/toronto-raptors-acquire-houston-rockets-kyle-lowry-sources-say
Um, Brooklyn without Dwight Howard isn't a particularly good team. Kinda strange to include them with the other two.
but having to root for howard is like being friends with some dude who's pimping out your sister. it feels dirty and wrong. i was just getting excited about our rebuild!!!!!! damnit!
You people are delusional, if you have the chance to get a top 5 player, you take it every single god-damn time.
