Why bother? What good does a 1-year rental of Dwight Howard do for us at this point? Between our current group of players and the available free agents, there isn't a supporting cast out there that makes us a championship contender with Dwight Howard on the team.

I no longer see a point in mortgaging our youth.

Well I think the reasoning is that Dwight won't have any attractive options next summer anyways, and we can offer more money. We're willing to take the same risk the Nets took with Deron.

    yep,...i'm good either way here.

fine if they make a move for Howard...fine if they go young and carry on.

either way is better, i think, then the spinning your wheels approach we've seen. either way is a pretty drastic move off course of where they've been.

Yeah, I'm good either way too. But, as long as we don't have anyone worthwhile on the roster next year besides Howard and rookies, I'd prefer Howard takes plenty of time to rest his back.

The good thing about having a rental player on your roster the entire year is you have 8+ months to convince the player to resign. With our loads of cap space - we're almost hitting the salary floor - we can easily add CP3, etc

I think with the Lowry trade we're definitely the frontrunner for Dwight Howard. Because that deal did not need to be done right now. Nor did it have to be specifically for a pick.

Right now, I think the Rockets are 90% likely to get Howard. If so, I'm more curious to see what other moves are coming with it. Because the roster is fairly flawed right now, and likely becomes more flawed following the trade. Whatever money we can offer, I'm sure being able to win next year also becomes a big factor in retaining him.

If Howard goes to the Lakers, he won't get the ball as much. He is OK with that?

While the timing of the Lowry deal is a bit peculiar, not sure how having 1 1st to trade trumps the 3 1st's we had to trade at the draft.

At this point, I am less likely than before the draft to believe that the moves we are making are purely to satisfy Orlando. Dwight seems to have moved off of a lot of teams boards indicative by moves made since the draft (Lakers, Nets).

But at the same time, nothing we have done have eliminated us from a deal for him either.

Free up enough cap space and say we will just buy him next year and you get nothing

The Rockets also gain some space to take back some contracts from Orlando besides Howard.

the things we should focus more on is what happen IF we land Howard?

what makes him to stay? Jeremy Lin? what if Knicks matches? Motiejuna? Lamb? Parson? Coach McHale? Clutch the bear? the Treasures? a visit to NASA? I-10? state income tax? former president Bush? Ron Paul? Sam Houston? Medical center? Cheap gas price? hot brown/blonde/mixed tacos? Cheap housing price? polluted air? Yao's restaurant?

All you need is an iPad and a few positive tweeter messages and/or e-mails. That'll do it!

    Oh wait, no it won't.

Morey is not dumb....we all know this. Now the national media doesn't know much about the rockets but I expect real fans here to know the basics. We just have too many r****ded posters scattered in this forum now a days. What most of the national media dont know and ALL of us should....is that Les doesn't tank. There is a reason they let Courtney lee walk without a trade....a reason Lowry was traded for a pick and scooby snacks....Morey is slowly clearing cap space. For what? Maybe Howard, Hedo and a josh smith trade....makes me think. Maybe I'm reaching, but I know better to think we are tanking and all real rocket fans should know better too.

If we get Howard before the July 11th opening signing day, do you think we can get some players to back out of their promises to sign? I would imagine thats why we lifted the tender on Lee b/c he is likely waiting to see where D12 is going...

What reason on earth would Dwight have to stay here if we get him? There would be no other pieces, and championship contention would be years away. I get the money part, but guys like Lebron and Westbrook have shown that they would be willing to take minor pay cuts in order to maximize their ability to win. It's not just about leaving money on the table. Its about reputation, legacy, and even endorsements that stem from such things and can oftentimes dwarf whatever salary an NBA superstar is making. Case in point, look at Derrick Rose's $300M Adidas shoe deal. I believe Wojo said that somebody told Dwight he would sign the same deal as soon as he got to NY or LA. I don't feel like the front office takes this into account.

If we got D12, we would also get JRich. We would also have cap room and I think players would want to come here. We also have a bunch of young players that can step up. I think it would be the start of the dominos falling for us. If we don't get him..yes, we will suck royally. lol
