Jonathan Feigen: Rockets will seek FAs, but all offers will require flexibility to keep chasing that post-Yao hope for big, game-changing trade.
Rockets only get pick if 14. Seriously though, would love to see Scola and Martin shipped out too before the season starts so that the young guns can play.
Signing Lin & Asik are risky high upside moves to bring in young players who could become cornerstone types. They perfectly fit a rebuild strategy. But we will see whether their teams match--it's not anywhere CLOSE to a sure thing that we get both those guys (especially Lin). I have to assume Morey is banking on the Raps sucking for one more year... and getting a pick in the 5-10 range. Jonas isn't coming in and being awesome immediately. That is true. He's not going to be like Rubio. DeRozan does indeed suck. However Lowry is obviously a great player and that Lowry/Bargnani combo could do some damage. We'll have to wait and see...
Since we are doing Raptors a huge Solid, I wonder if they will be involved in a Huge trade that nets US something big...? J.Smith or Howard or Something..... They have a 8 mil trade exception that I can see helping us net Howard. This also should give us a 3.5 mil trade exception also. I smell something else coming thru.... They have Calderon that they have to get rid of now... maybe to the Knicks? PG: Lowry SG: Derozan SF: Kleiza PF: A. Johnson C: Bargnani That isnt too bad of a team...It may give the bucks a run for their money for the 8th seed.
Over-Under on number of days into the season before Moochie Norris is offered a 10 day contract when Fortson goes down?
Except that this is completely wrong; the cap hit will be spread equally throughout all the years of the contract for the Rockets. It will only affect the Bulls/Knicks if they match it. In this regard, the contracts make perfect sense; if the Rockets start a firesale and trade away their 3 biggest contracts (Scola/Martin/Lowry), they still need to cross the salary floor. Why not do it with a couple of guys who are young enough that they can still grow with the rest of the rookies, and are mistake-prone enough to likely secure a very bad record? While I'll wait to fully comment on the deal until we see this "unique protection" (my bet is on declining protection of top-8/top-3/top-1/unprotected, with the option for the Rockets to defer the conveyance of the pick for a year ONCE), on first glance I'm very happy that the Rockets have pivoted so deftly to a full rebuild. I was fine with them holding out hope of trading for Dwight/signing Deron, even if the chances were very small, becuase they were the last two game-changing franchise players that will be available in the next 3 or 4 years. So far, I'm very glad that they've managed to avoid the trap of overpaying the second-tier free-agents just because they had bigger trades that fell through.

agreed, First we can't sign Drummond in the draft To sign Asik we loose the lee rigths. so probably we will loose Lee we fail bringing Gordon Howard Then we loose Dragic in a stupid negotiation (you cant play hard when the other is in better position, giving him one year option was nothing) and now we are throwing Lowry for a middle first round pick no direction, I hope today Morey explain us why we are blowin all in 3 days we loose Dragic, Lee and Lowry onle for a 1st 2013 pick (the same value we paid for terrence Willimas)
