With all the !@# that has/is going on with the FO and mgmt and coach/players, Howard will die if he's traded here. I know some of you think he won't walk away from that much money but given the state of this team, I think he would. Sometimes you have to take a "pay cut" to enjoy life.

It has been said that it is better to be more lucky than good. It has also been said that Morey is one of the best, but just hasn't been very lucky.;)

If he does, we won't be too far off from our current state. It's a risk the Rockets need.

Agreed here. What's the worst that can happen? Us being so bad that we actually get a high draft pick?

Lakers give up Bynum ... everyone else is out. TRUE.

    BUT,

With Nash, the Lakers window is now 3 years. They don't need it shortened either by Dwight not signing an extension, or having an injury risk. And they can't take on any more salary after Nash.

If I was the LA GM, I would fear going from having a Nash/Kobe/Hill(?)/Gasol/Bynum lineup for 3 years, and transforming it into something with Howard for 1 year or less (with injury). I'd be kicked by Lakers fans for breaking something that was already contender worthy and going after something with a potentially devastating downside.

The fact is, with every big-name free agent signing, the Rockets chances just improve ever more slightly.

Just maybe there is just one chance of hope with all that's going on.

Even after all the depression that's going on lately with the Rockets, they, for some odd reason, STILL have a shot at Howard. I just want this to be done and over with so I can move on with my life.

Rockets have no chance at Howard. Why do you guys keep fooling yourselves?

I feel like I get stupider every time I read an argument against landing Dwight...

A couple of reasons why the Lakers will find it more difficult to land Howard:

    1. Salary - something's got to give. Lakers are trying to shed salary. Orlando is trying to shed salary. A third team would be required because I think it is unlikely the Magic will agree to taking ON more salary because of a Bynum deal. Bynum + MWP for Howard has been thrown out there, but get real! They're taking on salary for a chance at Bynum?

Also, if we are no longer looking to take on Gasol, I find it difficult to find a 3rd party for him. Timberwolves kind of makes sense there. That's the best case scenario for both teams if they can somehow leave the 3rd party team with all of the toxic contracts.

    2. Extend and trade - Bynum is too big of a gamble without an extension. The Magic just have too much to risk if he can just walk away in the next offseason. Bynum ALSO doesn't have a great track record in terms of injury history.

    Dwight running out of options

Dwight seems to be running out of options. The Nets have built a nice roster...not sure they are really interested anymore.

Lakers will do only if Howard extends. Howard shot himself in the foot by saying he would extend with only one team.

Rockets should pass and accept that they need to rebuild.

Rockets could end up with Howard, mostly because of everything we can offer them, while other teams have questions on what they have or are willing to give up.

Nets are interested, but they don't really have the pieces if other teams are going to risk a rental.

Rockets should pass, but the only way to rebuild is to trade for Howard. Trading for Howard will jettison a large portion of the roster, and if Howard doesn't re-sign, than we are in position to rebuild.

I don't understand why some of you are acting like this ship has already sailed. To me, it is blatantly obvious that the reason we are going after starting PGs, denounced Lee, and still have a Picasso of a roster is because we are offering A LOT for Dwight. I don't see how anyone can say otherwise. Hell, even Clutch is insistent that this is Morey's top priority right now.

Supposedly they weren't enticed with our current offer, but since you say we're in the front running I say throw them a crappier offer. Eff the magic! If we can land Howard and keep Martin,Scola, and Lowry then do it. If not we roll with what we got.

Lowry trade must mean Morey has some sort of direction we're going in.

Rockets will get Gary Forbes in the trade, a source said, but Rockets will deal Lowry for pick. Exact details of protection still discussed
