Funny thing is . . . ASIK sounds like Cato 2012
A 'Defensive' Center . .. . with minimal offensive skills

    Rocket River
Toward the end . .. i thought Cato played well next to Yao
    CATOMIC BOMB!!!

No question, CD. Players wanted to be here then, unlike now when we can't give away money and the players are here want out.

Wow the Morey hate is taking huge proportions. CD was a terrible GM, he was lucky he had Olajuwon, but he gave so many bad players huge contracts.
Even if you are not a fan of morey (which I am) you cannot seriously say you think CD is better and keep a straight face.

Wait so you think having a better draft position isn't important in order to draft good players?

So you expect the GM who has three late first round picks to get player with the same skills as a GM who got three number 1 picks?

You can be critical of Morey (I like him a lot as a GM, but others can have other opinions) but lets keep this logical and not make absurd statements.

C'mon, We all know Lewis was worth a st round pick. Mirsad Turkcan was not. Rockets blew all those picks that year. And when was Collier good? Joel Przybilla, the guy they actually drafted, was much better than Collier. And CD made the Gay/Battier trade. Morey was the asst. GM at the time. Just another bad deal by ya boy CD. As a GM, Carroll Dawson was a great assistant coach!

CD had the luxury of having the #1 pick.

Mike Dickerson was a 14th pick
    Kenny Thomas was 22nd
    Cuttino was a 2nd rounder
    Othello Harrington was 2nd Rounder
Bostjan Nachbar was a 15th Pick

That [if healthy] team there could beat our current Rockets
    and beat them SOUNDLY

Yeah, players really, really, really care about who the GM is. That's the determining factor.

Players came here to play with Dream, Rudy, JVG, Yao, McGrady.

I am finally leaving the motet bandwagon. This guy cant make a decent trade, can't sign even mediocre players, and worse alianates his own players and coaches. His tenure coincides with worse years rockets have had( as long as I have followed them ~ 30 years). This next season is going to be even more bleak. Not to mention his love of undersized PFs. I have not a glimmer of hope for next season. At least the Francis era under CD was fun to watch! Who in the current roster do you want to see; PPats failed jumpers ?

Rocket_River is just showing his lack of knowledge, with his haiku style of typing...it doesn't help.

Anyways, Morey is the better GM. I don't think the GM is the issue, I think the owner is. Les is awesome, but he needs to let us tank. He needed to let us tank once Yao went down. At that point, had we tanked for a couple of seasons, we really could've had a great future. Morey's working under hard corners here, I'm hoping Les agrees to let us tank.

The #1 move I hated from Morey was this Dragic move for Lin, hopefully, I'm wrong. My favorite move was Alston for Lowry.

Its gotta be CD, and its not even close. When he was GM, the Houston Rockets were a player destination. Under Morey, all current players want out and no new ones want in.

Give Morey the #1 pick to select Nerlens Noel next year and we will see what he can do given the same things CD was given.

Then we can decide who is better of the two.

Joke right? E Griffin and Collier were good (RIP, I'm sorry)? Trading 3 players for 1? Why does someone giving Lewis a $100M contract an excuse for CD not 'drafting' him? Your logic is weird man ... you'll pull at any straw for an argument.

BTW, I don't believe GMs can hit 1.000, so the Lewis miss is fine if it were isolated, but CD had a bad batting average in the draft compounded by signing mediocre players with big lengthy contracts.

CD gave out so many bad contracts and drafted so badly that he wasted the best years of Yao/T-Mac.

Anyway, even though this is from the Bleacher Report, it is still an interesting read. Not all of it is correct, but worth a read.

If I'm mediocre and want a big fat contract, yeah ... CD for sure

Uh, the first championship roster was basically put together by Patterson

CD made the Drexler trade, tried a new big 3, then finished his career making horrible signings and making terrible draft picks.

They both were/are just "ok" and if we fire morey I sure as hell don't want CD back

Hope he still works with our big men, though. Great teacher

Players wanted to be in Houston when CD was here, did he give some bad contracts - sure, but the NBA is not about getting the best contract deal, this is not fantasy basketball it is about putting together a good team with chemistry.

Morey is failing miserably at that.

    Lets not re-write history here.

    99-00 34-48
    00-01 45-37
    01-02 28-54
    02-03 43-39

The Rockets didnt make the playoffs in any of those seasons. I would say that was a pretty bleak era. Walt Williams and Moochie Norris were not fun to watch either.
