Would you really be unhappy if the Rockets strike out in FA and go with youngsters?

Obviously, FA is not over. So this is quite premature. But part of me is actually rooting against the Rockets in FA. To me, FA this year is basically Dwight Howard or bust(maybe Bynum too if he could be had). And that everything else is of less consequence whether it be Dragic, Lin, Gasol, or Josh Smith.

I think if the Rockets gets outbid everywhere except for Asik, Les would truly give the go-ahead to rebuild. Imagine if we do rebuild, the following could be in play next offseason.

Roster: Assuming Scola's traded or amnestied

    Asik: $8mil
    Lowry: $6mil
    Patterson:$3mil
    Camby(maybe): $3mil
Morris/Lamb/White/Jones/DMo: ~$10mil combined with each making around $2mil
    Parsons: $1mil
    Llul: ???

    Key points

    1. That roster will not win too many games, so the Rockets will have a top-10 pick, perhaps top-3.
    2. Someone will put up very good stats on that team besides Lowry. Because even on crappy teams, someone always put up nice stats.
    3. That's enough room for perhaps 2 max contracts, at least 1.5max
    4. To sum up, that team will net a high draft pick, likely will have a "rising star" deserved or not, all-star caliber player in Lowry, and plenty of capspace when luxury tax rules become a little tighter. It would look much more attractive to prospective FA for a long term deal(Harden in a S&T perhaps?)

TBH, I would actually like this scenario. If the Rockets don't get Dwight Howard, I want this to be our next offseason.

They could pick five random rowdies and start them for all I care.
At this point its full tank city.

They have to get rid of Scola and Martin, otherwise they will still be good enough to win a handful of games.

    Lowry
    Martin
    Parsons
    Scola
    Asik

That team could easily compete for a playoff spot into the final week and end up at #14 again.

Start 5 power forwards, with 5 more backing them up.

    not at all

this IS the direction they need to go, at the expense of a season... they need to move kmart and scola asap and play the youngsters...

but i fear mchale messes this all up... he hates losing, he wont play the young cats... god i hate the perceived direction or lack thereof of rox management..

    Hire a new coach first

players like Patterson have regressed under McHale when they played better under Adelman

According to David Thorpe, who's a good friend of KMart, McHale hates him and doesn't think he belongs in the system. So I think Martin will be gone or get a reduced role. Morey has already tried to trade Scola, and probably will trade him. I can't imagine there's not at least one contender who would love to have Scola. He only has 2 years left on his deal(3rd year not guaranteed).

Let's roll with the young guys. I'm ok with a rebuild. I'm just so sick of hearing this will happen that will happen Blah Blah Blah.

Let's get our stars in the Damn draft! I believe Morey is capable of building a championship caliber team starting with the draft.

The better PFs will step up, the crappier ones will back down. If everyone plays well(very unlikely), then Morey will simply trade the rotationg guys by the trade deadline. Because after all, he is heartless and doesn't care about his assets feelings. :)

It wouldnt be the end of the world to watch the young guys play. I do wonder if when the time comes the FO can actually sign a star player and not watch them be scooped up by another GM.

I like it. What happens to Livingston, Brockman, and Leuer?

So much for Finch keeping the Adelman offense in place.

I am perfectly with fine with stripping down to young guys that you want to develop. I'd see if there are trades out there to be made to get upside players.

No. We need to look to the future now. Being really bad is better than being mediocre because we'll get good draft picks.
