MLBTR said Olney reported Houston was paying a good bit of it but I havent seen that report. Baseball America ranks them as 4 and 7. Dominguez is the organizational best defender and Rassmussen has the best slider.

Rasmussen and Gould are not alike. Whereas Gould looks like a Mike Foltynewicz clone (to me, at least) in terms of stuff and possible potential, Rasmussen was a pretty polished college lefty and some scouts believe that he may not need much more time in the minors. He's a very small guy; I'm envisioning Wandy right now. More finesse, with a good mix of pitches. In the totem pole for LHPs in this system, which is a pretty small one, he may be above Brett Oberholtzer. I would put him in the mid-teens.

3B, as I've said, is also a dead spot for the Astros. Dominguez is the top 3B prospect as of right now; if I was going with projection, Rio Ruiz would top the list, even though he has yet to play. BA put him at #4 in the Marlins system; here, I might put him somewhere from #10-14.

no, i don't think the exact amount came out, but we were definitely giving the dodgers back money had that trade gone down.

Dodgers weren't picking up his salary. Astros were picking up almost all of it in the Dodgers trade too.

Also, based on this haul, I'm gonna go ahead and assume that the Astros are footing a large portion of Lee's remaining contract.

Yes, he pitched the game against Rice. He was a small, crafty guy (very different than Cole and Bauer on that same team). The Owls ended up winning the game in extra innings. I believe Rasmussen only gave up a few runs, and we got to their bullpen.

and why the hell is Miami trading for Lee? I don't see Miami as a credible threat to win the East, or even compete for the wild card.

They basically went all-in, misguided or not, on this season. They opened their new stadium this year and went out and spent a ton in free agency on Reyes, Buerhle, and Bell.

Good work, Luhnow. And here I was thinking 4th of July on a Wednesday would suck.

Oh my god! Rob was my very best friend in middle school. We played relentless games of one-on-one basketball every single day during recess. He would always win, always. In middle school, he was the starting quarterback, the star point guard and SP #1. Everyone knew this kid was a great athlete.

I went to high school with him too, but we grew apart. He was straight filthy pitching for Pasadena Polytech though. Nobody touched him, and even though he was small and went to a small private school with not much of a baseball program, UCLA recruited him pretty hard.

Surreal that he's now on the Stros. He loves the game of baseball, always will be working to improve his craft. Good person, super competitive, I have a feeling he'll develop into a solid rotation pitcher despite his size.

your guess is as good as mine. they were the preseason darling, and crazy stuff happens in baseball, so i guess a wildcard run isn't completely out of the realm of possibility. would require all of their underachieving pitching to return to form, and post-injury josh johnson doesn't seem to be the same guy.

also, they are set at 3B for the next 6+ years, so dominguez is dispensable i guess. seems like there may have been better avenues to take than acquiring carlos lee though, especially if he's nothing but a 3 month rental. maybe they will talk him into sticking around there on the cheap.

    Nope.

    <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>To correct previous tweet, <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%2523Dodgers">#Dodgers</a> would get cash along with Lee, with Gould going to <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%2523Astros">#Astros</a>. Lee must waive no-trade. Not a sure thing.</p>&mdash; Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) <a href="https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/219193624531959808" data-datetime="2012-06-30T22:20:07+00:00">June 30, 2012</a></blockquote>

The Dodgers deal was better.. But it is still a solid trade for the Astros. They get 2 players that will be top 20 in their system and Wallace will get at bats.

 If it's truly Dominguez and Rasmussen, then this trade tops the Gould deal by far. In fact, salary considerations aside, you could make the argument either one of those prospects is better than Gould.

Don't know the validity of this tweet but:

    <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>The <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%2523Astros">#Astros</a> are covering all but the pro-rated minimum of Carlos Lee's $18.5 million dollar contract according to the Sun Sentinal. <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%2523Marlins">#Marlins</a></p>&mdash; Brandon Benson (@TheBTrain10) <a href="https://twitter.com/TheBTrain10/status/220640777292873728" data-datetime="2012-07-04T22:10:35+00:00">July 4, 2012</a></blockquote>

2 days ago Jason Stark said the Dodgers were paying the majority of Lee's salary.. At this point it doesn't matter.

The Dodgers were paying a majority of Lee's salary.. The Marlin's are only paying a prorated portion of the minimum.
