According to Buster Olney giving up Matt Dominguez and Rob Rassmussen

Sources: The Marlins are trading Matt Dominguez and P Rob Rasmussen for Carlos Lee.
— Buster Olney (@Buster_ESPN) July 4, 2012

Dominguez, a 3B, was the 12th overall pick in 2007. With New Orleans, he's hitting .234/.291/.357 with 7 homers and 46 RBI. 23 BB:31 K. According to BA, he was the Marlins' top prospect in 2011, and he was rated #4 at the beginning of this season. Always been a great defender. Plus arm, great instincts and footwork at 3B. Offense hasn't caught up yet. Rasmussen, a 5'9", 160 lb. LHP, went to UCLA, where he was the #3 starter behind Gerrit Cole and Trevor Bauer. He was a 2nd round pick in 2010. In 2011 with High-A Jupiter, he went 12-10 with a 3.64 ERA. In 148 1/3 innings, he allowed 140 hits (10 homers), walked 71, and struck out 118.
Wow. MLB.com has Dominguez ranked as the #74 prospect overall and the #8 3B prospect in baseball! And Rasmussen may be that LHP we needed to add to the farm system. Not stellar, but still very good. Thank you, Carlos, for blocking the trade with LA. I think you inadvertantly helped the Astros out here! tellitlikeitis, where do you think these two would rank within the Astros' farm system? They're #2 and #9 in the Marlins' system, although theirs is worse than ours. And where does Rasmussen stack up against Garrett Gould (probably not as good, but still wanted to check)?
MLB.com has Dominguez as the Marlins' #2 best prospect Rasmussen is ranked as the Marlins' #9 best prospect.
The Marlins might not have been on Lee's list of teams that he could refuse a trade to. Or, maybe he just really likes Miami....
no, they were on his list. he agreed for some reason. picturing Ozzie Guillen's reaction to the first time he sees Lee not hustle out a grounder...
Well that came out of nowhere. Glad to see the Astros found a trading partner. I saw Rasmussen pitch for UCLA when they came down to Houston for the College Classic a few years back. He was (and is) a talented pitcher, but he was so overshadowed by Cole and Bauer.
Not terribly surprising. Carlos will feel much more at home with a strong-Hispanic influence in Miami. Plus he's played for Guillen before. It's obvious he prefers comfort to winning.
Anyone know if the Astros are paying any portion of Lee's salary in this deal?!? If not, WOW ....total steal.
love it!

Jeff Luhnow pulls off the impossible, finding two trade partners for Carlos Lee in one week. There is a HUGE difference in this trade. Crane is eating his salary. Whereas in the Dodgers deal they were picking up his salary. So these prospects are costing us about $8M. Of course it's still better than nothing.
