We are talking about Brett Wallace right, the same one that everyone was calling for the head of last year...

And now he comes up has like what... 40 AB at .333 and now you wanna say he's better?

Lee is batting .285, is walking more than he is striking out.

Wallace should keep getting seasoning at AAA. He's having a great year down there and he has shown he has a bit of a shaky psyche at the ML level. Let him develop a full year of AB and call him up in September and let him play then.

I already said I'm fine with Wallace getting Sept ABs... just not calling him up and watching him fail and lose confidence during August.

Also, let's get back on track of what I was originally talking about. It is all about perception. If no trade happens at the deadline b/c of Lee declining it, and Mills benches him, that will send the signal to the players that you do what management wants or you will not play.

This the Major Leagues, not the California Penal.

....like the major league reference?

Yeah well those vets were jettisoned and are getting playing time... on other teams.... It's not like the Astros benched Pence, Bourn, and Berkman to play Wallace, Bogy, and Maxwell....

People on both sides calling people of the other side "ignorant", etc. New argument, same script. blah, blah, blah.

Here's a clue: you might be closed-minded if you immediately regard other opinions as "ignorant". I'm just sayin'.

Why in the HELL would the Astros continue to burn at-bats on a guy who clearly has something left, but is obviously showing signs of decline? And how on earth is this possibly a good idea?

Sure, Carlos Lee is hitting .285. But his .742 OPS probably means that almost all of his power has left him. With his girth, he's nothing more than a singles hitter. Barely slugging over .400.

Astros aren't contending for anything soon, so why would they waste ABs they could be giving to Wallace on Lee?

Guess what? Wallace has already proven that he can hit in the minors. Even before he was an Astro. I know, mind-blowing.

I find it ironic that you are defending Carlos Lee and your moniker contains the word "loaf".

Definitely won't get a better deal. Young decent prospect (I would think around the same level as Oberholtzer), and supposedly picking up a large chunk of what was left on his deal.

I'm hopeful the deal can be resurrected if Carlos changes his mind. At best, with another team we probably eat millions of dollars to get a similar prospect.

Or, if you actually read what I posted, I said he very well COULD be better. Lee is setting the bar really, really low. 5 HRs in 80ish games. Wallace had 2 in the 10 games he was up here. And he had a 0.700 OPS last year - just a small improvement would make him better than Lee.

A 0.285 BA with no power out of your fat first baseman is really worth very little. The main benefit to not striking out is that it helps you drive people in - something he's still not doing at all.

Uhhh, he's been at AAA for 4 years now. How much seasoning does he need?

So you're OK with him failing and losing confidence in September, but not August? That doesn't even make any sense.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure most teams out of contention start bringing up and playing their prospects over their veterans midseason. No one has a problem with that.

Looks like a sportscaster from Panama is reporting that a deal has been made.

Marlins system is pretty barren. It's not mid-2000s Astros barren, but it was the #28 system according to Baseball America, and may still be a bottom-10 system right now.

Not really hoping for much, to be honest. There's still a marked dearth of LHPs in the system. Adam Conley (#10 according to BA) and Chad James (#6) are nice possibilities, but they're probably not coming. James has struggled quite a bit in High-A. Probably Rob Rasmussen (#7).

Jesus Solorzano could step in as Lexington's CF, if Andrew Aplin doesn't get there first. Mike Kvasnicka and Brandon Meredith are OK prospects. Solorzano rates as one of the best athletes in Miami's system. That could be a pretty nice starting outfield right there. Plus arm, plus speed. Decent power right now that could grade out from average to plus.
