It's the evil Africans who sold millions and millions other Africans into slavery. What a horrible legacy for them.
Hey, they were just enjoying their freedom from regulatory agencies, and employing "mutually agreeable" contracts. FREE MARKET. Then those pesky British had to outlaw slavery. tsk tsk.
So kill the Africans and the socialist? Or kill the socialist, then the Africans. Or do we kill the socialist Africans and then blow up the government schools? What's the plan here chief?
Slavery is the epitome of the liberal ideal, that is some people has the right to use coercion against others.
Right, because it's the evil Africans and their witch doctors that turned the white man into racists and slave masters and killers. Before then the whites loved them the blacks. Good call.
Yeah, you've really been reading your John Stuart Mill. Kudos Hightop. Please clarify why a quasi-unregulated market led to coercion, mr. wants to be controversial, but doesn't know how.
This is one of the worst arguments against affirmative action for URMs. Though I'm sure most white people love it. It ignores the inherent affirmative action and privilege for white people in the workplace and institutions of higher learning. To get Asians focused on how affirmative action for URMs doesn't include them flattens two situations that are different, but have similar causes. Regarding affirmative action in education: http://www.slate.com/blogs/moneybox/2012/02/14/harvard_and_princeton_clearly_discriminate_against_asian_appliants_the_question_is_whether_it_s_illegal.html Regarding the workplace http://nymag.com/news/features/asian-americans-2011-5/ The best part about white privilege is that you get to accrue it passively and then say "I've never been given anything in my life"
Natives have a legit beef. Slavery wasn't a good legacy either and don't forget starting a war for no reason to get Spanish land:
The premise of that article that Asians should make up a higher percentage of business executives falls apart for a number of reasons 1) Asians skew towards non-business careers (engineers, doctors, etc) 2) Asians haven't been going to Ivies for long enough, so they're not old enough usually to be execs 3) An Ivy league degree is not sufficient qualification to be an exec. You have to excel professionally, including having enough social capabilities to be able to lead and motivate teams. That's not taught formally, and anecdotally I've seen many Asians with deficient social skills because all they've done their entire life is study
Well it is shown that minorities that immigrate do significantly better than minorities that were conquered, or enslaved. It's can be seen in Hawaiians, Mexican Americans, Native Americans, and African Americans scoring less in their tests. It's also true of minorities in other countries. However people who immigrant voluntarily, even if their conditions were hard, or they were treated badly, end up doing better. It may have to do with people having a hopeful outlook being part of the reason they immigrated. West African immigrants, Korean American immigrants all do exceptionally well now despite language barriers and some prejudice, or unfavorable conditions.
not very convincing or relevant. There hasn't been slavery here in the US for 150 years. MANY generations ago. The culture is to blame, not some more tired excuses about what happened to one's great great great great grandfather on their mother's side.
Thank you professor Hightop, next you'll tell me racism existed long before slaves showed up in America. What else ya got?
This is totally ridiculous. While there are a few people out there who are racist in every race, an overwhelming majority of the people who are against Obama feel that way based on his policies. I would never vote for Obama but would not hesitate to vote for any African American, female, Hispanic, etc... if I believe in what they stand for.
I think it's more the simple fact that you have self-selection. The Asians and other immigrants that come here from overseas are a subgroup of their population that were specifically seeking a better life and had either the resources and/or the motivation to uproot their lives to do so. If you looked at only a subgroup of the wealthiest and most motivated African Americans, they would outperform other groups as well.
Have you ever killed for this country i have so stfu i am the not kind of person you want to to mess around with they call me the sandman because i put people to sleep.
Don't worry guys. After Obama wins all the silly Republicans and fake Libertarians will crawl back into their holes and hibernate.
I just got back from Afghanistan less than a year ago. Security detachment stationed in Camp Edinburgh Helmand Province patrolling Sangin with 3/5. Good call though.
I'm talking about what studies have shown. It's the facts. Hawaiians haven't been colonized for hundreds of years as well, and the same is true in other nations of groups that have been historically conquered, colonized, or enslaved. Koreans in this nation do extremely well. In Japan not so much. So that blows your pure culture argument out of the water. You're also doing a disservice to ignore history, since it's also been shown that it takes at least three generations to change speech/learning patterns. Why don't you do some study. In addition 50 years of almost equal rights doesn't wipe out 400 years of slavery and oppression. To think it does is weak.
