It seems like there is certainly some misunderstanding and bias at play here.

The views of Christian sects can vary so widely that your post is almost insulting. But it's a D&D thread about religion - what should I expect?

Why'd you even bother coming in? We can't talk about religion or foreign policy without everyone shouting one faith or another is evil/dumb.

It's a Religion thread, everyone can post whatever they like but nobody will analyze it.

Just like you said, it's pointless.

Also with most of the health care debate, there can only be one question... WWJD.

Same thing he'd say about abortion: "same flight, different date."

He would not force you to buy insurance.

Neither would Obama. You are free to not buy insurance and then pay the penalty. It isn't a crime to not buy insurance. That's up to you.

If you have to pay a penalty for not having something, then you are being forced to have that something.

No, if you have to go to jail for not having something you are being forced. With the healthcare anyone has the liberty to not get insurance but instead pay the penalty.

It isn't a crime to not have insurance, that's what makes it a choice.

There are tax breaks for being married. So in other words it's a penalty to not be married, but nobody is actually forced to be married, you just pay more taxes if you are single.

This. When are people going to learn religious books are nothing but steering you in the right moral compass.

Every word of a religious book is NOT fact. Even IF it was fact how ever X amount of years it was written, these books have been rewritten, retranslated, and reinterpreted so many times that human's hands and work are all over them.

If you are just a good person and follow do unto others as you'd like done on yourself, a super basic rule of just being compassionate to people instead of arguing about this religion is good and this one is bad, the world would be a 100x better place.

I'd have to estimate 75%+ of wars have started because of someone "religious duty." Believing in religion too strongly is just as bad as being a bad person because daily you are condemning people to hell or starting a fight about something.

If we behave like Jesus wants, no one would need to buy insurance.

I never said anything about going to jail. I never brought any other tax into the equation, I'm saying that if I don't buy insurance, I will be forced to pay this penalty for something I don't want. It's not right and plenty of other taxes aren't right. If it wasn't Obama, it would have been someone else trying to implement this tax. Do you like that word better? I believe I'm being forced even if you say NO.

Quit invoking Jesus and stop pretending to speak for him. We've gotten in enough **** because people keep acting like they're Jesus's press secretary and its their job to let us know how Jesus would approach a policy issue.

Jesus died a couple thousand years ago. Live by his teachings but quit prognosticating about what Jesus might or might not do. I'm fairly certain the Bible says nothing about insurance mandates and health care reform and since we're playing the "lets all speak for Jesus" game, I'd say he'd take a far more nuanced and philosophical approach to analyzing this then you have thus far.

You are free to argue against the health care mandate but keep Jesus out of this. This continual need to connect everything to religion is just idiotic.

hilarious that you try to keep calling it a penalty vs. what it really is: another tax

What's not right is that someone who doesn't want insurance gets to freeload off of everyone else and drive everybody's health care cost up if they have to go to the emergency room, or get some illness requiring hospitalization. That kind of freeloading is what's not right.

I understand that you didn't bring up any other taxes. I brought it up as a parallel. Someone may not want to get married, but if they don't, they will have to pay an additional tax. Is that forcing people to get married?

Other dude said WWJD. No need jumping on me, I'll not be your whipping boy. I will invoke Jesus into every part of my life and I do not need you or the government to approve. Even so, I was discussing whether this is forced upon the American people.
