see your point. 8 mil sounds reasonable no matter whethe we had kept him or not.

Interesting point. Of course, going after Lin could have been some kind of smoke-screened Hidden Agenda Priority 1 for all we know. Maybe the Rockets didn't want to make it overly obvious. (Les to Daryl (perhaps): Keep it relatively low key, but go after him.)

But I think you make a very good point. Lin obviously falls somewhere on the priorities list, but deep within the Rocket's free agency war room, how do we really know where his name really sits on the list? And for what specifically weighted reasons? Good player that the Rockets need, good PR that that want? Both (yes, of course)...but how are those things really weighted on their organizational needs charts?

Hell, if I've got a choice, gimme Dragic. But if we're going lo lose either Dragic or Lowry, I wouldn't mind Lin added to the mix at all.

I want Lin. After this monstrosity of an off-season, I'm no longer getting my hopes up and am accepting us for what we are -- a mediocre, borderline playoff team.

With that said, I'd like to enjoy yet another frustrating season of Rockets basketball. Jeremy Lin is as exciting a player as Houston can get. Let's get him.

Finally someone that makes sense. The MLE might end up being too much for Lin if he flames out like I expect him to outside of Pringles offense. Dragic needs to brought back. I don't have a lOng posting history but I never batted an eye about cutting Lin. Even during Linsanity and Dragic on the bench I felt Dragic was the better PG. wasn't worried about having a 3rd pg. if we let Dragic walk and sign Lin I will renounce my fandom until Muarry is fired and less sells the team or dies.

    Lin Then = undervalued

    Lin Now = overvalued

Hi everyone, I would just like to point out that within Australia at least, the Houston Rockets are completely irrelevant, and sadly, the NBA is largely irrelevant. Hell, there is even no fake rockets merchandise at local markets, etc. What Lin did was turn ALOT of people (not just asians by the way) back to watching NBA basketball. Nevertheless I think at the time most people would believe Morey made the correct decision due to the contract situation of Flynn and Lin, nobody believed he had what he displayed during 'linsanity' in him..

Deckard: One thing I've noticed watching NBA free agent markets over the years is that guys tend to get significantly more $ than fans or media members expect. We see a lot of "$_____ for ____? Are you kidding me?" discussions. Sometimes it's just the nature of the NBA market. A good number of Hornets fans are probably shocked that Eric Gordon's injured ass got $58M. There's also a lively debate in Chicago over the worth of Omer Asik. Often, fans can be more careful with an owner's money than the owner himself. :)

As for Lin, MLE would be way too low-- remember even guys like Earl Watson, Beno Udrih, Luke Ridnour get that kind of money. Lin has show at least a realistic upside to be much more than these guys.

Lin is willing to be back up point guard for at least a couple of years and he is not afraid of the big stage of being the starter. I say he's perfect fit for us if Dragic walks. He can back up Lowry or take over the starting role once we trade Lowry.

Imo Lin and Dragic is evenly match in terms of contributing to winning a ball game (you could argue Dragic is a bit better as a individual but only slightly, Lin and Dragic is about the same size which is good for pg, both can drive and finish. Dragic looks quicker to me but Lin has good lateral quickness. Dragic is the better ball handler, and he can shoot wayyy better than Lin). Thing I like about Lin is he's willing to take any role, smart defender (good help defender and pick and roll defender) and the confidence to run a team: this huge because for those who've been watching Dragic game since Phoenix, he can sometime go out of control and rush things (reminds of of Brooks: when under pressure drive to lane and get block or lose dribble) but I've never seen Lin playing out of his character , he is always calm and not afraid to do anything to get the best shot possible. I think Lin will be awesome next to our rookies in the second unit. On top of that he's younger than Dragic.

Another thing is I think trading Lowry now would be a mistake(unless it's equal or better value) because he's coming back from an injury. I say at least showcase him during the season to get better value.

well we could have another thread called Lowry: Then and Now.

and talking about how people in January where posting, he was the heart of the team, the best rockets player, that he should play in the all-star game, etc.

Now people want him gone, calling him a cancer, saying he is not good enough to start over dragic, etc.

but thats clutchfans, overhype a player for a week or a month, and then crushing him.

    Yup.
Still... I'd be interested in sending Lin over here. If he doesn't pan out in two years alongside the new rookies we can just amnesty him.

Nope you can only amnesty players that were under contract when the CBA was signed.

Currently, I believe the only Rockets that qualify for it are:

    Kevin Martin
    Luis Scola
    Kyle Lowry

And some rookie deals like PPat etc.

People saying Lin wont get better is bs. Goran played in way more games and learned from Nash. Lin is young and has alot to prove. I would bet on Lin getting even better than I would on Dragic. Lin hasn't had the time nor a superstar in his position to learn from.

Dragic would be better in the short term. But we cant sign anyone to save our lives so we should probably roll with Lin if we can somehow make a deal with him. I'm going to miss Dragic and Lowry. I enjoyed watching both of them.

I think the real discussion is Lin at whatever contract Morey offered Dragic, that Dragic felt was way too low, or some other PG who will take similar or less money. Obviously if they wanted Lin over Dragic they would have negotiated with Lin first. Otherwise what if Dragic had accepted their offer? If Dragic has already moved on from even considering the Rockets at this point as has been rumored, then Lin is the back up plan, not the guy they are choosing over Dragic. There is no guarantee that Lin will take the deal either over other offers he gets either.

Another factor in who our PG will be is, "What the caused the riff between McHale and Lowry?". If it was losing his starting job after coming back from injury, then perhaps Dragic being gone "fixes" the issue. There have been lots of players who have asked for trades and reconciled with their teams over the years, including Hakeem at one point. And trading someone who is both coming back from an injury and forcing his way off your team isn't exactly selling high.

I like Lin as a backup, I would be concerned with him as a starter due to his tendency to throw the ball to the opposing team a little too often.

We aren't going to win anytime soon ... we are just sitting at the 14th pick year end and year out

At least get players that people can cheer for and fill the seats.

As the team gets better, Morey or whoever will make adjustment to contend.

More people would watch and follow if we play our rookies and sign Lin.

guess where the term Linning came from....
He may not be the MVP but he played well enough.... better than a 3rd stringer

It would be Linsane if they actually offer him 8-10 mill/year
