thats the whole treadmill we've been sitting our asses on for the last 3 years. start brooks, bring lowry off the bench. start lowry, bring dragic off the bench. start this dude. trade the dude while we start his backup. start the backup while we draft his backup. then his backup will no longer be the backup whom he was the backup to which means he will have a new backup to back him up.
One step forward, two steps back. Morey's been running in quicksand for three years, making moves like this.
Guys, I just ran into Morey and asked him why he's letting Courtney go. Apparently Courtney Lee has to leave because Jeremy Lamb is ready to take his spot both as SG and as the player who is not Asian but whose name kind of sounds like he might be.
jus stupid... for being such a numbers guy, Murray doesnt seem to be doing a good job managing the payroll... letting assets walk - for nothing....smh.... Shoulda moved Scola or KMart around draft time... even below value, still woulda given us CLee as a bargaining chip...
Ah, never mind then. So, do we have any cap space at all if Chicago doesn't match Asik? What do you think comes next? We still have no legit back up center so signing Camby for $3Mpy makes sense. Stings letting Lee walk like that. Can anyone explain to me why we couldn't have waited til the 11th to swing some kind of quick trade involving Martin, Scola, Brockman or Livingston away for a draft pick or trade exception before letting Asik sign the offer sheet? This seems exceptionally sloppy on the Rockets' part, much more than usual anyway.
I like Courtney Lee, but lets be honest; he is no game changer. He's not terrific on either side of the court. A decent sixth man is his ceiling.
The Rockets are making so many moves.. but I still don't know which direction they are heading in. Are better or worse now? Are we better for the future or worse off now? I don't even know..
Courtney Lee was not dealt at the trade deadline last year because Les wanted to make the playoffs and were in the thick of the playoff chase. Lee is a solid player, but nothing more. He cannot create for himself and struggles against bigger shooting guards. In short, for a team like the Rockets he is a stop gap. Same thing with Chase, a valuable role player, but not for a team in the position the Rockets are in. Courtney Lee was going to get a 4-5 year deal at the MLE. It would be foolish for the Rockets to pay him with Jeremy Lamb on the roster. Keeping players such as Chase and Lee only hurt the Rockets long term because their cap hits are about to go up and their production begins to plateau. Everyone is sick of .500% results under Adelman and now McHale with the current cast. Daryl Morey is shaking it up as much as possible as allowed by the owner. Players like Lamb are the future, not Lee.
they traded this asset (Lee) for Asik. Getting rid of a new surplus (SG with Lamb in tow and Martin for now...maybe someone else if we trade him, we'll see) to address a need (C) Isn't that what you wanted Morey to do with assets? Use them to get something you need? Just because it's a "renounce" and "sign to restricted FA contract", it means something different to you? Same result if he had gone about it with a trade last year
Agree. I think that some people here are expecting too much from Lamb. From what I've seen in college he looks good, but the first thing that raised an exclamation point is his body, it's not NBA built yet. K.
Not sure if this has been posted (not going to check) Steve Kyler: Before you go nuts thinking Courtney Lee is obtainable. While unrestricted, word is Houston may have a deal for him once Offer Sheets clear about 22 minutes ago
Exactly. You look at the teams who contacted Lee with interest and the Clippers, Washington and Bulls are over the cap and can only offer MLE. Dallas is most likely saving their cap room now for next year and Indiana needs to decide if they want to match Portland for Hibbert which would be $12.9 and Hill signing for around $6 Mil would leave them around $5 Mil in cap room. Lee has already state he wants more than the MLE which would be 3 years for $15.8 Mil. So if Chicago matches Asik, I think we would then engage them in discussions for Noah in a sign and trade for Lee and some of our youngsters. They get cheap talent and lower their salary cap and get a player they have been interested in with Lee. If not we would sign Lee for a contract starting around $6 Mil per year. If they are not interested we could still sign and trade Lee for something to one of those other teams to get Lee the contract he wants which is over $5 Mil per year. Of course if Chicago does not match Asik then Lee is gone as we would have to renounce him.
