exactly. now i wouldnt be fussed about letting lee go for free is we had actually had an actual purpose, i.e. tanking or contending, in the last 3 years. but the only thing, and i mean the only thing, we did in the entirety of the last 3 years was to collect "assets" such as courtney lee while other teams were doing their best 0-82 impression or contending, e.g. Heat, or developing their players, e.g. Clippers/OKC/Minnesota. All we fkcn did was collect pawns and now we are letting them so for nothing. oh just great morey.
This is what I was talking about. Getting something for Goran and Lee. Instead we are assed out now. For nothing. We could have moved up in the draft mid season at the trade deadline armed with Goran and Lee.
To be fair, we were at 24 and 20 at the time. Since Les' goal is playoff, it made sense to keep Lee and Dragic at the time.
Not typical for Daryl to not get value back for someone so stop acting like he always loses players / assets for nothing. Sheesh. AB - 1st round pick and Dragic TMac - 1st round pick and Hill Shane - 1st round pick and Thabust Landry - KMart etc...
Sell off your assets at the right time and you won't be at thr back of the lottery. Better that then letting them walk for nothing, esoecialky when it's a stretch to make the playoffs anyway.
I don't get why they renounce Lee, he is a really decent starting SG, and offers more on both end of the floor than Kmart..... I guess they are going all in on Lamb - but dang couldn't they get a 2nd rounder for CLee? Just seems Morey is the KING of holding on too long. DD
Right now getting a center (Asik) is more important than keeping Lee's rights. Let's trade Martin and develop Lamb, and try to get Mayo.
They needed the cash to make the offer to Asik but even more telling by this move is that there doesnt appear to be any deals on the horizon to free up some cash. Morey may be holding out for top dollar on some torn ones.
Can't blame the FO for not getting a center in the draft. Clutch and Bima did say they were blindsided by DAL getting Zeller as the 17th when HOU was planning to get him at 18th. No matter, just trim the roster and get a more balanced squad. No team probably wanted Martin, and HOU doesn't want to lose him for nothing, so will wait for offers until we need to unload him at next year's trade deadline.
Guys, guys, the real reason is we either A) Develop Lamb or B) Get stuck with J-Rich in the Dwight Howard trade I don't like the move at all but I believe in Morey's decision making. I just wish we had flipped Lee at last year's deadline.
If you match an outside contract offer for Courtney Lee, you are not allowed to trade him without his consent for an entire year, and you cannot trade him to the team that signed him for an entire year. This complicates the plan of trading him at the deadline. Also complicating such a plan is that his contract may very well be one that's deemed to be a "bad one." I imagine the Rockets have some info as to what other teams are likely to offer him and perhaps they decided it's a # that will make him not worth that much in the trade market. Remember, a player's trade value has both to do with his talent level and how expensive his contract is.
C. Lee good riddance. His impact last season was marginal in most games he played anyway, he is a role player. And we are already stocked full of them.
Start Kevin Martin, bring Lamb along slowly, move Martin at the deadline, allow Lamb to take the reigns. Rebuild.
He was our best SG last year, a true 2 way player. Now we have a flopping - no defense playing - whining Kmart and a thin as a toothpick Lamb. DD
