I agree with you that rebounding is not a zero sum stat, I included the 'almost' for that very reason. I think you understand what I was attempting to communicate though.

I do find it funny that the level of scrutiny on my opinions differs from yours.

    1. Lopez is a craptastic rebounder because his rebounds went down by 2 per game (you just stated yourself that a 2 rpg fluctuation is within the norm.)
    2. You can't build a defense around horford because he is a PF masquerading as a center? Does this even make sense? (just watching one Atlanta Hawks game would lead you to recognize that Horford is one of the best defensive players in the league.)

All of these baseless generalizations, hyperbole, and false equivalencies to build your case that the rockets deal is different (thus potentially more desirable) than the other offers. I mean the only thing masquerading here isn't Horford, it's this thread masquerading as intelligent discussion (how much do I have to sift to find that on this website anyways?)

really? I'm pretty sure we tried like hell to do that very thing and our GM, who many consider to be great, couldn't do it.

So after reading through this thread the only thing that becomes apparent is that meh is one of those posters on clutchfans (they know who they are) that don't actually watch many nba basketball games and instead rely on so-called advanced stats to make their "arguments."

The OP is dead on. It's what I've been saying for a couple months now. We have the best package available, the best combination of young talent combined with expiring contracts and the ability to take on salary, for a team like Orlando to get a jump start on rebuilding.

Name the team that is willing to trade for Dwight without a commitment to an extension or signing a new contract that can offer Orlando a better deal.

I won't bother with the rest of your post because we obviously have simply very different perspectives. I generally side with basketball people. People like NBA GMs, coaches, players, who feel that rebounding is not even close to being a zero sum stat. For example, JVG, who always stress getting rebounds. And how the Rockets were always one of the best defensive reboudning teams under JVG.

Until you can show me good reason to think these people are stupid at basketball, and that a team mostly gets the same amount of rebounds regardless of who's playing, I'm going to take their opinion over yours... on really anything basketball related.

Actually, in the Rockets situation, it's more like half of your 401k will lose most of its value soon, and you want to cash it in right now for a trip to Vegas and try to hit it big.

The Rockets young players are not all going to develop in Houston because there's not enough PT to spread around. So you have to trade some of them. Morey is trading them for a gamble where he could win big(Dwight stays), but could also come away with nothing(Dwight leaves). There are other ways to trade said players, specifically on draft day for future draft considerations. The Rockets did not do that. You can say that may be the wrong choice, but your analogy is not wholly analogous.
