This seems like a logical explanation. I dont see any other reason to why they'd let Courtney Lee walk for nothing.
Let's hope this means we are getting Gordon. I would be good with a Lin/Gordon backcourt combo. Probably a pipe dream though.
I know we had to clear cap space to sign Asik, but couldn't we find another way to do it? Weird that we wouldn’t want to keep Lee around as an “asset,” especially since McHale likes him a lot. We must have something big lined up or this is just crazy.
We're gonna just lose him for nothing? This doesn't make sense right now. And I want dragic at $8.5 mil so Morey better not be lowballing
Props to BimaThug... he said he thought John Hollinger's numbers were off and that the Rockets would have to let Courtney Lee's cap hold go to sign Asik in the podcast.
Yeah but this wan't the type of Crazy I was looking forward too.. Hey but look on the bright side.. It can't get any worse.. could it? Oh man now I'm scared...
As Clutch just mentioned, Bima hinted at this yesterday in the podcast (34:45 mark). http://rockets.clutchfans.net/2948/podcast-houston-rockets-draft/ [rquoter]Dave: You look at the draft too, you see how many GMs outright lie about things, and I think the same thing applies in RFA, we are going to match any offer. That's what the Bulls did but the Rockets did it in such a way that if they match, it will be painful for them. ... What does this mean for Dragic and Lee? Bima: I was trying to crunch the numbers. I kept arriving at the same conclusion that.....the way the offer is set up, you need about 8.37 million in cap room, and if you waive Fortson and Simpson, and then remove Lee's cap hold, you get exactly to 8.37 million. Numbers are telling me, pure speculation on my part, numbers are telling me to make this offer work, they'll need to let Lee walk and renounce Camby to have any cap room. Doesn't mean you can't bring them back but you lose bird rights and lose Lee's RFA rights. To keep in mind, when making an offer sheet that requires you to renounce your rights to some of your FAs, if the other team matches, you can rescind the amounts. If the Rockets renounce Camby, Lee and make the Asik offer and the Bulls match, the Rockets can get the bird rights back to Lee and Camby if they haven't already signed elsewhere. Doesn't mean you for sure lose them but most likely, if the Bulls don't match the offer sheet to Asik, Lee is gone. [/rquoter]
