    This.

Do not be a third-wheel to enable a third party become a title contender. Grow your young players until one or more become stars. If not, you are likely to be drafting high. Unless, the front office is totally disfunctional, this formula ought to give better results than whatever we had for the past 15 years.

I respect your opinion, but I don't believe Dwight walks away from 30 million dollars to leave the team that acquires him. The only way would be if the Lakers or Nets had the ability to offer him a max contract which they currently don't possess. If he didn't care about the extra cash, he'd be in Brooklyn signing with Deron as a free agent July 11.

If you consider that Dwight is 26 and has 10 more years, the cumulitive loss in $$$$ by walking is around $52 million over those 10 years when you factor in loss in raises etc...

Of course not. The Nets deal is very difficult to pull off. First off, you are giving up 3 first rounders that are expected to be in the 20s and it take 5 years to get that last pick. Orlando has to like all 3 players. Humphries and Lopez have to want to go to Orlando (basically meaning Orlando has to be willing to pay them more than other teams). How is this a good deal for Orlando at all?

Trading the best center in the game for 2 free agents, a promising young player (but expected to be no better than the 3rd best player on a contender), and 3 late first rounders. I don't see it happening. I think they have to get a third team involved for Howard to land in Brooklyn.

Not genius, just doing what Denver did when they were shopping Carmelo: constantly teasing and playing teams off one another as they alternated upping the offers. I hope this ends soon.

I doubt it. Why would we facilitate a trade to New Jersey. Outside of Dwight, what does either team have that anyone is going to covet?

James and Bosh also knew their old teams were extremely likely to do sign and trades. You don't get the extra cash any more, so there is a zero percent chance of doing that.

I would consider Dallas and ATL as the only legitimate threats in FA next year. Will he pass up the money for either of those teams?

I'd be open to Lopez, but depends on the $$$. His lack of rebounding is a big concern. Of course, if he rebounded like Humphries, he'd easily be a max player.

Maybe McHale thinks he can teach him to "drop that ass."
