NBA is fixed y'all should see that by now the writing is on the wall. Howard, Joe Johnson and D-Will are next big three. The owner of the Nets is billionaire that TRULY wants to win and shows it through his decision making, actions and thinking. It's not Moreys fault entirely he is working his butt off but Lesley Alexander is not a winning owner he took over a already made championship team then screwed it uP and was never able to fix it up again nor was he willing to do the nEcessary things outside the box to truly get it done. He's traditional, conservative and not appealing to the new generation of superstars and basketball business.
That Nets front court worked out so well for them. What an easy package to beat if we wanted to. I say just stay out of talks until the Nets are not an option. Dwight will resent Houston and fake an injury until his contract ends if we we step in now. The Magic have to come out and say we don't want anything the Nets have to offer. They would rather them go to Houston. It's really impossible for them to end up in Dallas. Cuban is just a greedy and gets jealous when he hears Houston is going to get someone. This time he can't cut us off.
Said it before, will say it again: the most overvalued commodity among casual NBA fans is the future first-round pick, especially when it's from teams that are guaranteed to be good. I'm guessing it stems from the NFL Draft, which is deep enough that all first rounders carry significant value. But here? Not so much. If hypothetically, there were a three-way trade today in which team X acquired Miles Plumlee, Arnett Moultrie and Jared Cunningham, would it even be a dent on the radar screen? Those are picks 24, 26 and 27 in a fairly deep draft. The caliber of picks the Nets would "give up" might even be worse, and likely in weaker drafts. Hell, there are lots of people here who aren't all that pumped about Jeremy Lamb, Royce White and Terrence Jones - and those are three MID-first round picks in a deep draft. Step away from the keyboard, stop drooling at the mere mention of "first-round pick" and actually think about the potential players that would fill those roles. Quality over quantity wins out every time in the NBA.
early second round picks are better than late 1st round picks. I would argue Jeremy Lamb alone would be worth more than all those late picks.
I agree, it's not the NFL draft, even sometimes considering the quality of the player. It's worth it, if someone puts an All-Pro QB on the market, such as Philip Rivers and Aaron Rodgers. We'll say both players are in their mid 20s. 3 First Round picks may not even enough to get such a player
I think they can as long as they have another first round pick. I believe they have the Rockets pick next year....wait it is protected IIRC. Maybe that's the pick they are trading? If that pick helps the Nets land Howard I will kick Terrance Williams in the head.
I'm not interested in joinging an arms race to land Howard and Hedo's contract. I think we would be trading for a disgruntled diva who can use his back injury as an excuse to not give it his all. Now that he may have some FA options next year (i.e. Atlanta), I think he might make do on his promise to not re-sign. Then, we would be left with an aging Hedo and his contract and missing 3-4 young players or picks. No thanks.
Agreed. And Lowry is much better than Brook Lopez. An offer like Lowry, Martin, Lamb, and Motiejunas for Howard and Turk absolutely DEMOLISHES what the Nets are offering. As in, it's not even close. Three picks in the 25-30 range (one of them not till later half of the decade) + Brook Lopez is a joke offer honestly. Remember that Humphries has to go to a third team in this scenario.
I don't think it represents value here so much as risk. It depends on the protections on the picks, but I'm guessing the Nets won't manage to put very strong protections on these picks. They aren't really guaranteed to be late in the first round. What if something goes wrong? Dwight's back gives out on him and Deron Williams demands a trade. They could go for years saddled with untradeable albatross contracts, no cap space for free agents, and the losses wouldn't even be mitigated with talent from the draft. They're betting on everything working out with essentially no backup plan. I didn't go thru the entire thread; has anyone done the run-down of salaries. I think it looks like this: Joe Johnson $19.8m Dwight Howard: $19.3m Deron Williams: $17m? Gerald Wallace: $10m? That would be $66m on 4 players and escalating every year after that too. If they used a $5m MLE each year to replenish the roster, they'd be paying some significant luxury tax before they got an 8-man rotation.
They traded that pick to Atlanta for Joe Johnson. So theoretically speaking, the future 1st rounders the Nets give up to the Magic may be so far off that Dwight Howard would be retired by then, and those picks would actually be good again. Of course, no GM cares about whether a 1st rounder 6+ years down the road. Not when his job depends on him doing well in the next 2-3 years.
This is like saying ANY 1st round pick has a ton of value because a lot of bad stuff can happen to any team to make them crappy. Picks are valued based on an educated guess. If there's 10% that Howard misses significant amount of time(enough to make a contending team a lottery team), 5% chance that DWill demands a trade, then the chance of a pick becoming awesome would be 0.5%. Multiply by 3 and you get 1.5% chance that the Nets could suck enough for the pick to matter. And then Orlando would have to get lucky in the lottery to make that pick a truly awesome pick. Hennigan is a disciple of Presti. He's not going to make decisions based on the slight chance that weird, crappy stuffs may happen.
They've been saying on ESPN radio (Mark Stein) this morning that a lot of people believe Orlando is spreading this in an attempt to get other teams to bring their best deals to the table. Just a few points 1. Lopez is a Base year player which makes it much more difficult to trade. 2. Lopez, Humphries and a bunch of late 1st round picks is trash for a trade for Howard. 3. Mark Stein said he garuntees that Atlanta wants Howard. It is highly unlikely that any other team could match an offer by Atlanta, certainly anything the Nets could offer would pale in comparison to a package starting with Al Horford.
I just don't see it. To me, Al Horford isn't much more valuable than Brook Lopez, if at all. Horford is a nice guy and works hard, but 14-10 power forwards with no defensive presence almost grow on trees - especially if you're willing to pay near-max money for them ($12 million for the next four years). That makes no sense for a rebuilding team. I think Rob Hennigan has two priorities in a Howard deal: 1.) Young players with high ceilings 2.) Cap flexibility to be in the mix in future years An Al Horford-centered package fails on both counts.

how are all these picks better than our offer? orlando doesn't even know what they are getting for another 4-6 years! what a scam.
