So it sounds like you judge players' contracts based on how they performed up to that point and totally ignore potential development? Based on your logic, we should trade for Kobe.
Not really, because we would have been stuck with Nene's bloated contract as his injured butt kept riding the bench. It was a bad trade to begin with.... DD
all you Lovers turned Haters depending which week it is and which thread it is..... say Morey pulls out Bynum for facilitating Howard to the Lakers with some of our "imperfect" roster going to Orlando......how many of you are back on the band wagon? Is that the kind of deal it takes to swing you back the other direction or are you lost forever? I am just curious what you need to see happen.
I'm hurt. Seriously, though...How much better would they have done this season with Gasol? Maybe the 8th seed? $38 million for 2 more seasons...and he'll be 32 in a couple of days. He's a good player but nowhere near the franchise changer Morey is apparently attempting to acquire.
Sitting down with the coach of your team before you make a trade is common practice, because if the coach is not going to play the player and it is going to cost you a future first, then why bother making the move at all. Management failure on Morey's part not to have Adelman involved in those decisions. DD
No I get what you are saying that he may not have been a franchise player, bu that is a far cry from your quote that he wouldn't have made any difference. Gasol is not some scrub or even average player. He is very good.
Yeah, I think so, if Morey somehow actually manages to execute on the plan he has failed at for the last 3 years, sure....that refills the smart bomb meter. DD
YES!! it's called REBUILDING.. Kmart is mad and why would i keep martin here for him to play horrible and mad at management? maybe i'm just griping like a 12 year old school girl… OK i AM griping like a 12 year school girl… i just feel we have no direction and keep making moves that make no sense.. someone explain us having 9 pf's on our roster? i just don't get what he's doing..
Really? You think Gasol and (maybe) Nene was the way to go for this franchise? I certainly don't hate the job Morey has done since he's been here. Contrary to what larsv8 seems to think, there are many of us who don't hate him yet don't worship the ground he walks on. It IS possible to be somewhere in the middle... The all out pursuit of Pau Gasol was a head-scratcher, though.
Signing free agents to those contracts isn't necessarily a bad thing if you know you can get rid of them. Nuggets traded Nene for JaVale McGee, a huge trade exception and a 2nd rounder. Ariza was flipped for CLee. I can go on and on. It's just another way to build up your assets.
I hear ya, how about making a move that is for winning games instead of building up assets for a change? DD
What Morey thinks is actually a big part of the Rockets success (the moderate level that existed) in the 2000s. Using accumulated assets to trade for disgruntled stars (Francis/TMac) and sucking and getting the top pick (Yao). Of course we probably wouldn't have got that top pick if Francis had been healthy. Whats interesting is that we have so much depth, that now when our best players get injured (McGrady/Yao/Lowry/Martin), we haven't been losing as much. Morey's early success has caused his downfall. If he had made more mistakes early, it would have helped him today. I'd like to see him to get a healthy superstar, and see what he can do assembling the supporting cast. If he had been put in the right position, I think we'd be what the Thunder are today.
ok when that doesn't happen and NOTHING happens again and we pick 14th again and you hear rumors that "morey is working hard to get into the top 10 of the draft" and that doesn't happen AGAIN will you jump off the morey train? we are ALL fans of the rockets and wanna see them improve.. this is called frustrated complaining.. i am mad and wanna see some direction from this team.. right now i see the gathering of pf's… if we are idiots because we don't like morey how can any of you be so smart when you have nothing to back up your claims of morey being great?
They will lie in wait and carefully monitor box scores to see if Royce White/Patrick Patterson/Terrence Jones/Marcus Morris somehow becomes a decent player and scream bloody murder about how they should have been retained (...regardless of the fact that they screamed bloody murder about roster imbalance and the need to ship them out when they were acquired...). Sort of like how DD became a Donte Greene booster ("first-round asset!") in order to support his temper tantrums re: Artest for awhile until it became clear that he's no more than a journeyman NBA player
Again, playing time is earned, not given. If Terrence Williams couldn't outperform the other SF's on the roster in practice, there's no reason he should be taking any of their minutes during games.
I'm not advocating keeping Martin. Please understand that. But he is an expiring contract. You can't kill Morey for not making a Danny Ferry type deal when he doesn't have a Joe Johnson type player. We don't have a stupid contract for a really good player that we need to dump. This is an important first step! It's July 3rd. Free agency hasn't begun yet. Summer league hasn't started yet. Pre season hasn't started yet. The roster isn't finished.
I think those trades have improved our team. Sure we aren't winning a bunch more, but when you lose McGrady/Yao/Artest, it hurts.
Minnesota made it pretty clear they wanted Gasol. Maybe Morey intended to trade Gasol to Minny for Pekovic, Derrick Williams, and Ridnour or something. Who knows?
