If it haven't . . . obviously this thread is not for you I can honestly say it was when they ran Rick 'The Ruler' Adelman out of town. At that point I through . . . Darryl It is truly all on you. Next Step - Hire McHale - which was a huge disappointment [I guess the love of power forwards goes beyond just on the court but on the sideline too] BTW - the guy that they wanted to force on Adelman's staff . . . is he still on McHale's staff? At what point did you start to have doubts in Morey's approach? Rocket River
When he proved himself as an incapable talent locator in the 1st Round of NBA drafts. Aaron Brooks, Patrick Patterson, Marcus Morris.... Also, when he time and time again fails to put together a trade package that is attractive enough to get other teams to bite. 12, 16, 18, Kyle Lowry and Kevin Martin's expiring contract and you STILL can't manage anything??
I don't think my opinion of Morey specifically has changed too much, but my opinion of the Rockets organization on the whole changed when they signed Samuel Dalembert.
I don't know mine ever did. I've never been too hot or too cold about Morey. I post a lot of times out of reaction to the blind love he gets. I don't think he should be fired...I also think he's been vastly overrated here. I think it's sad that the Rockets are at a point where their freaking GM seems to be the fan favorite in the franchise. Let's see how this offseason plays out...but we're getting close to the point where I'd change my stance on him and say it's time to look elsewhere.
After last season, now everything is unpredictable. everything he has done the past 2-3 years all got to me at this one point in the off season. Its like this team on paper looks like it wont be relative for another 5 years unless something happens. 1. Know one wants to trade with us 2.Know one wants our players. 3.Know one really wants to stay here just the players who were here in 08 or rookies. More is the right GM for Les, but for the better of the team he hasnt done much anything to improve it either through trades, developing players, or coaching staff. (I do give props tho to McHale for doing okay his first season in a shorten season) Last great thing Morey did IMO was get Artest when we had TMAC and Yao. Morey seems to be a GM who can do wonders for teams with an already established superstar, but when it comes to building a contending squad in the west without a star already on the team, those assets go to waste and those picks dont get develop its just like wtf.
That's Les Alexander. You'd be hard-pressed to convince me the decision to hold on to Yao Ming like grim death was anything other than Les Alexander's baby.
As a bad move? Mine hasn't changed, I'm still confident we'll get it done. And all the other haters around here will still be hating.
As soon as I realized how good Battier was and how bad Rudy Gay was, which was right about the time we fleeced Scola from the Spurs. I elevated my knowledge of the NBA and the game works. Thats when I ceased believing Morey was young and inexperienced, and realized how lucky we are to have him.
I'm not as down on Morey as I am with Les and his refusal to let us sink below consistent mediocrity, putting us in permanent basketball purgatory. I don't get how everyone can be so angry about our draft...it takes two sides to make a deal and I don't doubt that Morey was working his ass off trying to get a deal done...it just didn't happen. That said, the Ashik deal seriously makes me reconsider his capabilities and reeks of Kelvin Cato-esque desperation.
Clutch thought like I did...that they weren't going to acquire those sort of players that helped us hover right at average when we were in a lockout-shortened season and facing a deep draft class. Clutch's article that he wrote here about why they should start playing young guys and trading veterans...quoting Morey's comments about Les being the one giving direction...was pretty telling of his feelings on the franchise and what they should have been doing to rebuild quickly.
Maybe it was, but the surrounding pieces (Scola, etc) weren't untradeable. Scola is a great guy but re-signing him was a big mistake because his window simply didn't overlap with the team's direction.
He had a huge expiring contract with an insurance policy that paid for him. But the Yao Ming issue has been beaten to death.
I used to think you were a cool poster. My opinion changed when I started to actually read your posts and realized they were not just broken poetry like my mind had allowed me to believe. I realized your spelling was crazy and your posts read like disjointed thoughts of a pothead.
