I'd still rather have Amar'e. It's time the Rockets go after ATTAINABLE bonafide superstars rather than "seems to be pretty solid" young veterans. Aruba77 - you should've gone ahead and done it. And, you should probably look for better friends.
It'd be silly to say the Rockets wouldn't be interested. They did, after all, try to negotiate a S&T with the Suns before he signed with the Knicks. The thinking was different back then, however, what with the front office still planning on bringing Yao back. From what I remember, it was a deal centered around Scola but overall they were offering far less than what you proposed. Stoudemire's a gifted scorer with no defense. He could look good next to Asik under the right coach but he's liable to breakdown any minute and his contract is a poison pill. We need to trade our vets for 'assets', meaning draft picks, prospects or vets on favorable contracts.
I wholeheartedly agree, but our esteemed owner Les Alexander doesn't want to be patient and build a team the right way.
Just to be clear, the proposed trade was a deadline deal the season before Amare became a FA. The end deal was suppose to be Scola and Battier for Amare. But because Phoenix wouldn't allow a physical for the pending trade, the Rockets pulled out. So despite all the crap we've been through the past two years, I can at least take solice in the fact that clutchfans weren't running the Rockets that year and is on hook for 3yrs/60+mil on the guy.
I know it's the offseason, but.... Hey Clutch, We have a Rep button we can give people props for good posts. Can we get a Ban button for the people moving the other way?
If you don't like my posts, don't read them. The fact that I don't share the opinions with all others on this board shouldn't make any difference to you all. That is the basis for spirited conversation and debate.
You're getting so much flak because Amare's contract is considered one of the worse contracts in the NBA right now. NY would probably move him if they could, but it will be difficult for them to find someone who wants to pay $20M a year to a player who (1) has a very bad back (2) is no longer insurable (meaning if he is hurt, insurance will no longer pay for his salary), (3) has still another 4 (?) years or so to go on his contract, (4) doesn't fit into their team and is declining. Almost consensus among media and basketball analysts that Amare's contract is crazy bad.
I agree that Amar'e's contract is ridiculous. But it's something the Rockets should take on. It's now or never. Swing for the fences. You know...all those cliche phrases hanging around. We're not getting anywhere with guys like Dragic and Martin. Why not wrap them in a nice little bow and get a guy who can legitimately help us?
