A message from Christianity (Deuteronomy 22): [rquoter] 13 If a man takes a wife and, after sleeping with her , dislikes her 14 and slanders her and gives her a bad name, saying, “I married this woman, but when I approached her, I did not find proof of her virginity,” 15 then the young woman’s father and mother shall bring to the town elders at the gate proof that she was a virgin. 16 Her father will say to the elders, “I gave my daughter in marriage to this man, but he dislikes her. 17 Now he has slandered her and said, ‘I did not find your daughter to be a virgin.’ But here is the proof of my daughter’s virginity.” Then her parents shall display the cloth before the elders of the town, 18 and the elders shall take the man and punish him. 19 They shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver and give them to the young woman’s father, because this man has given an Israelite virgin a bad name. She shall continue to be his wife; he must not divorce her as long as he lives. 20 If, however, the charge is true and no proof of the young woman’s virginity can be found, 21 she shall be brought to the door of her father’s house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death. She has done an outrageous thing in Israel by being promiscuous while still in her father’s house. You must purge the evil from among you. 22 If a man is found sleeping with another man’s wife, both the man who slept with her and the woman must die. You must purge the evil from Israel. 23 If a man happens to meet in a town a virgin pledged to be married and he sleeps with her, 24 you shall take both of them to the gate of that town and stone them to death—the young woman because she was in a town and did not scream for help, and the man because he violated another man’s wife. You must purge the evil from among you. 25 But if out in the country a man happens to meet a young woman pledged to be married and rapes her, only the man who has done this shall die. 26 Do nothing to the woman; she has committed no sin deserving death. This case is like that of someone who attacks and murders a neighbor, 27 for the man found the young woman out in the country, and though the betrothed woman screamed, there was no one to rescue her. 28 If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, 29 he shall pay her father fifty shekels[c] of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives. [/rquoter]
He [Khomeini] was one of the least educated, inarticulate "thinkers" in Iranian history. His simple-minded language is what made him so polarizing for the lower-classes [devoutly religious class]. Nobody actually takes him to be a religious pioneer or innovator at all. He had the idea of Velayat-e Faqih in mind and just happened to be popular at the exact right time, and that's what allowed him to ascend to rulership in Iran. Before the Iranian people knew what hit them, "political prisoners" (mostly innocent people who were merely suspected of leftist or western allegiances) were being executed by the thousands, and him and his "religious" cronies were entrenching themselves in the country. I believe one of his memorable epigrams was that you could not rape your village's goats, but raping the goats of a neighboring village was A-OK. Fun fact: Khamenei [the current Supreme Leader] was a "motad" before he became the Supreme Leader, meaning opium addict. Khomeini's successor was supposed to be a hugely respected holy-man who was actually moderate and a good human being, but after writing an official letter to Khomeini disapproving of his mass executions, he was stricken from his post and so Iran got stuck with Khamenei instead, and thus was lost all hope of any kind of religious modesty in the country. Anyway, believing that Khomeini is a true spokesman of Islam is hugely disingenuous and I find it so sad that people like OP actually use this egomaniacal tyrant as an example [suggested] of how good Muslims live their lives and/or are told to live their lives. Khomeini's popularity and ascent was a matter of pure circumstance. The average middle-class Iranian was very well-aware of the huge mistake they had made after it was already too late to turn back.
Anyone can write a book. That does not make it a message from Islam. Is it in the Quaran? No? Then it's a message from some r****d.
I don't get it, did I miss something? What happened to ignite all these anti-Islam threads recently? Actually, this technically can't even be called anti-Islamic because it has nothing to do with Islam.
A message from Islam? That's a great misleading title. You either lack the knowledge to know better or rather this might fit your agenda, either way, typical. Khomeini;s Shia which represent 10% of "Islam". How many Shia's follow this guys teachings is a question which I can't answer. BTW, that book being shown by the OP is called the Tahrirolvasyleh, there is no volume 4. I don't know who did the translations from Farsi but it seems a little suspect. Though I don't doubt there is some very controversial stuff in there.
, I don't know much about Khomeni's influence in Shia Islam, its called full disclosure. Ignorance and stupidity? If I were making claims of something not true or misleading then I could unnderstand your point, but I don't get it. I'm not the one claiming this text to be "a message from Islam".
It's a good thing the picture actually states that the book is from 1990 and authored by Khomeini. Unfortunately, no amount of discussion will make the book in that picture appear less like a Quran to the eyes of a non Arabic/Farsi reader, and that's precisely the point of this thing.
