a heavily protected second round pick would suffice, which would pretty much amount to nothing.

True, but even if media isn't a factor in this discussion. However irrational it may be, it just feels uncomfortable letting this thing sit.

Lol...no, in that trade, they just become a part of that to get players for free. Brilliant move by Jordan.

I agree they could offer up a better package , in fact Im not sold that the Rockets have anything that Orlando would be interested in taking in return.

What the Rockets can offer is cap relief and .... left over pieces.

Forget about future first round picks. The Rockets owe their #1 next year to the Nets.
They cant trade any #1's until the Nets have been compensated.

The only pick they can add is the Dallas pick.

I would agree as well. As much of a hometown bias and logical outlook we have, we do have to give some credence to the members of the media. Every season when I thought we would logically be frontrunners based on the info I got from clutchfans, while also the media members were overlooking us and mentioning other teams, the media was usually right. The media barely even mentioned us as suitors in the Bosh trade or the Melo trade. They listed Miami for Bosh and the Knicks for Melo, not Houston. And they were ultimately right. They are more in the loop than our homerism would lead us to believe.

The Rockets have nothing to lose. Other than a sign/trade with NO for Eric Gordon, there isn't another huge deal to lose sleep over on the table.

Would they like to retain Dragic? Sure. But he's not an indispensable player. They can always work on other trades while still working hard to get the Magic to accept their Howard offer.

The difference is those players were free agents (or about to be, in Carmelo's case), and thus held more control over their situations. Within the media, 90% of the anonymous "sources" are agents or people with the player's inner circle. That's because they have motivation to use the media, for the sake of "pressuring" teams into deals (or scaring them away). Teams, on the other hand, like to keep negotiations silent. The media doesn't usually know their side of the story.

In the case of Howard, he's a full calendar year from having the kind of leverage he needs. That's why it's somewhat different this time, and team negotiations can play a bigger role.

All they are doing is telling you where the player prefers to play. The Nuggets caved in and traded Melo to NY. Bosh had a max offer from Miami to join the best player in the world and another superstar. If Miami couldn't have offered Bosh the max, he wouldn't be playing in South Beach today.

The Magic are taking a hard line stance, and didn't give in to Dwight's demand to go to New Jersey. They have a young, bright GM that wants to put his stamp on that organization with this trade. He's not sending Dwight where he wants to go, he's going to the team that makes the best trade offer.

Yeah , i see a 3 team deal in the making due to the fact no one team has enough of what the Magic may want in return....An swap for Bynum=DH just wont fly as DH is worth more than just Bynum...

So it will more than likely have to involve more than two teams.....Gasol is an option at PF for us but not for anything more than Lowry/Scola (nothing more).

I would be cool with Asik/Gasol front court....

if we can get Iggy for Martin/Rookie or Pick then it would be a good look going forward.....

Dragic(prefer lowry with this line up....Alot of defense from the 1,2,3 spots.)
    Lee/Lamb
    Iggy
    Gasol
    Asik

Not a Championship team off top but should be able to compete (atleast 2nd Round......)
