Is he? Horford is a career 14 and 10 guy. Only cracked 20 PER in one of five seasons. Doesn't block shots, isn't a defensive presence - and this is in the weak East. Missed most of last season with a serious injury. He's due $12 million - almost max money - for each of the next four seasons.

Horford is a solid, capable big man with a decent jumper who works hard. On a contender, he could be a nice role player. For a rebuilding project, he's exactly what you want to avoid - paying near max money for players who aren't at that level. I don't see a smart, efficient GM like Hennigan having any interest in that.

Yes. I can't help but see the Lakers as having the most obvious and hard to find piece that Orlando would want to replace in terms of a quality center. I can't see any reason why the Lakers wouldn't be willing (happy) to give up Bynum if they could get Dwight Howard in exchange.

I know it's more complex than that, but Bynum would sure seem to be a huge advantage to the Lakers as a trade piece that would be truly desired by Orlando.

The problem with LA giving up Bynum is that LA has to consider if they want to give up the 2nd best center in the game (who is under contract for 2 more years) for the Best center in the game who has openly said he wouldn't re-sign with anyone but Brookyln.

    Also:

It looks to me (placing NBA Insider hat on) that the only way the Rockets don't get Dwight Howard is if they decide they no longer want him. Not only does it look like Houston can offer the best package, but it also looks as if Houston is the only team at this point willing to offer anything at all.

Dallas has nothing and Orlando isn't going to do Howard any favors after what he has put them through. I am not sure Orlando would even re-sign if he asked now.

Welcome, to Houston, Dwight. You prick.

But why would Orlando want to get a just as expensive but not as good center, when with the best center in the league they still weren't that good? I think if Howard leaves, they want young guys on rookie contracts, expiring contracts, and they want to unload their baggage. Why pay lux tax for a lesser version of last year's team with no added future incentives?

Plus, if you really believe that Bynum is good enough to make the Lakers a frontrunner in the Howard sweepstakes, who is to say Bynum would want to stay in Orlando? Why wouldn't he go to Dallas or Atlanta next year? In which case, Orlando's trade gives them a slightly crappier season then last year, and they get rewarded with basically the same scenario when it is over.

I'll be glad if Dwight goes to ATL but only after he leaves Houston. We need to get rid of all these players.

Here's the thing though, if we are getting Dwight we are going to need shooters around him. That means keep Kmart IMO.

Lowry, scola, Lamb, Jones, future 1sts for d12

    Dragic
    Martin/Lamb
    Parsons
    DMO
    D12

I say Rookie GM has no guts no push the button a make a trade.
If Howard is not traded this summer he could leave later for free.

You're awfully confident. After the Nets seemingly took themselves out of this thing, random teams are already popping up on the rumor mill, and hearing the Rockets name less and less isn't a good thing, imo.

What the media says is meaningless in this discussion. The Nets removing themselves only helps the Rockets chances. The Lakers offer hasn't suddenly gotten better and the Mavs have nothing to offer. It's between Houston and Atlanta depending on which offer the Magic prefer.

Whenever the subject of Dwight Howard returning home someday to play for the Hawks was raised, Dwight (softly) shot down the idea. Since leaving the ATL outta high school, he's never lived there in the off-season, never warmed to the idea of returning. For any reason.

    Agreed.

Atlanta might be lining up for a Dwight trade but I don't think their offer will be that good. As mentioned above Horford is on a larger contract that Orlando probably don't want. Also, is LA really going to trade Bynum without an extended Dwight? I don't think they take that chance.

I think having Atlanta in the mix might push the cost for Houston up a bit which is either sending more assets or taking on more bad contracts.

If I was negotiating with Orlando I would say, the more bad contracts we have to take, the less rookie salary players you will get. Then you can use the rookies to send the bad contracts to another team. e.g. Hey Bobcats, if you take Jason Richardson from Orlando, we'll send you Terrence Jones for free...

    So you could do:

Orlando Gets: Lowry, Patterson, Morris and Martin

Bobcats Get: Jason Richardson, Terrence Jones

    Houston Get: Dwight Howard

Sent Dwight to the Fortress of Solitude. He doesn't want to live anywhere.

The only first we will offer is Dallas' protected one. We can't offer ours next year, and we sure as hell aren't going to offer our pick 2 years from now if Dwight doesn't agree to an extension.

No you couldn't. It's called a trade for a reason. The Bobcats have to give something up in return.
