They should have enough space to sign him next year though, and it would be in his hometown and if they still have Josh Smith then he would be with a friend.

He's going to the Lakers. There's no way he can get to Brooklyn now, so if you are the Lakers you should have no fear about trading for him.

What if Atl now sent Horford to Orlando as the main piece, keeping Smith?

They definitely can't get him unless they can get Gasol's salary off the books. Even if it's Bynum for Howard it would still be a crazy cap situation.

I think Dwight will give a new team and he will be traded there after he agrees to re-sign there. It won't be Houston.

I think the most attractive thing out there from Orlando's perspective would be Bynum, if they could get him to extend the contract.

I don't think they are going to get a single better player in return, and quality trumps quantity. If I'm them I see if I can get Bynum, and maybe get rid of a bad contract or two, and even get a draft pick or two. Maybe take back Pau, but send Hedo.

You could then flip Pau for a couple more young guys to put around Bynum.

    Broussard:

Not great chance he'll stay [in Orlando] but better chance than 3 hours ago.

Lakers and Mavs now emerge as front-runners. Dwight always open to Dallas and now have the cap space for max offer. We've always heard about Bynum/Dwight offer. Will Lakers offer Bynum? Buss loves Bynum. That's been his project since he's drafted him. He may not want to give him up. Lakers or Mavs to keep an eye on.

I think Brooklyn being out of it kills any chance he was going to come to the Rockets. Our only shot was the idea that he might bolt to Brooklyn would scare other teams off. Now there is no reason for other teams to fear that. Lots of teams should get involved now to try to get him and hold his bird rights.

Doesn't Andrew Bynum have a player option for next season?? Wouldn't the Magic insist that he signs an extension before trading for him?? Otherwise, they are going to be right back in this same situation, except instead of Dwight, it will be with Bynum instead. And why would Bynum sign that extension? He's going to get max money no matter where he goes, so why wouldn't he check out the landscape first? He can always sign with Orlando as a free agent if he wants to....

The truth is no team wants a rental. I think the Lakers and maybe a few other teams are ready to pounce on this deal once the Nets receive Johnson. They want a commitment from Howard and they could get it.

The Rockets see this so they backed off. They don't want to be used again in another 'say you will commit (to the Lakers) or be traded to Houston'. No more of that bull****.

I don't think the Magic care which team he wants to go to. He will probably say the Mavericks, but the Mavs don't have any assets for a trade. If they do trade him, they will just take the best package they can get.

I want this Dwight stuff to be over, I know this stuff has to be affecting what Morey is doing. We could be using our energies on more realistic opportunities.

broussard only supports popular teams bottom line. Mavs have to TRADE for dwight so i dont know why their cap space is of concern lol. They have nothing to offer orlando

If Atlanta guts the team for Dwight with a Horford package they are basically left with Josh Smith, Dwight and a whole lot of mediocrity. Plus does Dwight have the balls to pull a Lebron and turn his back on his hometown team and best friend?

Broussard is such a clown. He might as well be the agent for these players. To not even mention Houston as a player for Dwight is as irresponsible as it gets - it's basically dreamcasting for the NBA's power guys. And Dallas, without Deron? Please. There are far better situations for Dwight come 2013 than a way-past-prime Dirk and veteran scraps. But Mark Cuban's liked these days within power circles, so his name gets thrown out there without thinking.

I think the reality is that everything is in a holding pattern until Dwight "leaks" his new list. That's when we'll know the next step(s).

Time to start preparing Dwight Howard for life in Houston. The only real threat to the Rockets just eliminated themselves. The Rockets will have the best package for the Magic, so unless Orlando chooses to hold him and take their chances he signs with them, I'm confident he's heading here.
