This. +1 The only criticism I could think of right now is if he isn't involved in becoming a 3rd team in some of these other deals heating up. The strategy seems clear. Find a star then build a team around it. Right now we are searching, Gordon is a definite star to build on because he attracts other talent. The only issue I have with pursuing Gordon is that Lee (who for years I've been saying is untouchable) is completely expendable. Gordon can only play the 2 and although Lee can defend 3 positions his dribble drive offense is redundant next to Gordon. I hate being proved wrong, but if Gordon comes, I know we'd move Lee before the deadline. That's really going to be a waste because I think Lee is undervalued and underpaid.... I just can't see us getting equal value back at another position.
Martin, Patterson or Morris, and ONE OF: Lamb, DMo, White, Parsons. If they take one of these 4, they should throw in some kind of draft pick.
Well when the next Lebron James Royce White is on the court he can play point forward and then Gordon can play the 1 and the next Ray Allen/KevinMartin/Tracy McGrady hybrid Lamb can play the 2 with the next Dirk Pau Gasol hybrid Montejunas at the 4 and the next Chuck Hayes Bill Russell hybrid Asik at the 5. Imagine the possibilities.
http://espn.go.com/new-york/nba/sto...anta-hawks-talk-joe-johnson-trade-sources-say "The most recent proposal, sources said Sunday night, would call for the Nets to send the expiring contracts of Jordan Farmar, Johan Petro, Anthony Morrow and Jordan Williams along with the signed-and-traded DeShawn Stevenson and a future first-round pick to Atlanta in exchange for Johnson. Sources say that the Nets are insisting that the trade includes at least one of their free agents via sign-and-trade -- such as Stevenson or Gerald Green -- in hopes of keeping themselves over the salary cap. That would allow Brooklyn to keep its mid-level exception to sign an additional free agent; sources say that the Nets have serious interest in Bosnian free agent forward Mirza Teletovic to add additional frontcourt depth." Maybe they can save one expiring or two by doing that. Or maybe we can do a SNT with them(Stevenson or Gerald Green) to take back a short term(one year?) reasonable contract. But I'm not sure about that. Anyway, it'll be too bad if we can't make a deal with Nets while nobody can lose in a deal with them these days
Morey we don't need Air Gordon. Yes he is a very talented 2 guard but you just drafted a very skilled lengthy 6'5 in Jeremy Lamb who will be a stud.
One issue with a S&T deal is that: A sign-and-trade deal can be made with a free agent who has been renounced, as long as all the above criteria are met. Sign-and-trade contracts must be for at least three seasons (not including any option year) and no longer than four seasons. The first year of the contract must be fully guaranteed, but the remaining seasons can be non-guaranteed. http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q88 Kind of a quirky rule. Will ATL be willing to give any of these guys 3 guaranteed years? Will any of these guys be willing to have 2 non-guaranteed years? Also, I don't know if any of them have Bird Rights and if there is any issue with using the Nets cap space to sign them (does using cap space to sign, say, Geral Green prevent them from using the MLE?)
I love Parsons as much as the next guy and I want to keep him on our team but if he was the dealbreaker in a package for Gordon we have to trade him. Gordon is already one of the best 2's in the game as is and in a couple years with the decline of Kobe,Wade, Manu, Allen, JJ etc. Gordon could arguabaly be the best 2 in the game. Parsons is a nice player but I strongly feel he's overrated on this board. For all the good he does there are plenty of shortcomings that I think are overlooked by the majority of this board as well. If there's one thing I learned... ClutchFans more than any other fans have always been a sucker for "blue-collar" guys that overachieve. That's why we loved Mario Elie in the past, and Landry and Hayes more recently and Parsons currently. It would hurt to lose Parsons but finding a replacement for him is much easier than finding a soon to be Top 3 SG in the league.
Morey isnt trading Patterson, i only see his name brought up in trades from posters Patterson is going nowhere
I think there's a lot of truth to what you are saying, but when you factor in Parsons' production for the $800,000 we have him locked into for the next 3 years, that's not easily replaced.
I wouldn't mind getting Gordon but I think Houston should make him an offer instead of doing a sign-and-trade. I know it's riskier but if they can pull it off they don't lose anybody. I especially don't like the idea of giving up a guy like Parsons when he is the only true SF the team currently has. Up until Houston got Parsons it seemed like the team was always searching for a quality SF. Now that they've solved the starting SF problem they are gonna trade the guy away and try to fit a "tweener" in there instead? Not liking it. IMO, if there's a guy on this squad they should not trade it's Parsons. Period.
Look, I think you are way off on Gordon. I like him but what does he bring other than Kevin Martin version 2.0? He might have a motor to make up for his undersized frame for the two... But I don't think his defense is that much better than Kevin Martin.... I think the stats are around .4 more steals a game... I'm not sold... Also, do you think he'll be enough to change Dwight's mind? Do you really see Howard going, "Oh, well NOW Houston has Eric Gordon... Sorry Brooklyn..." No. He won't. So now the question is do you think Gordon is the superstar in the making that Houston has been looking for (Re: when Houston acquired another SG who scored in bunches... *cough* Kevin Martin....) Or do you think he has that much more potential to pull the plug on Jeremy Lamb as a Rocket? I do not think that Gordon is that much better than Jeremy Lamb. Lamb is a rookie, 19 years old. Has a much better 2 guard frame than Gordon and will draw the same amount of interest from superstars to come to Houston. Lamb even has the potential to be a better offensive player than Gordon IMO. And that is all IF Gordon shakes the injury bug.... and he'll be playing in a Houston Rockets' uniform.... EEK.
Not teams trying to win rings. Gordon isn't the player you build around. He's a player you add to the guy you are building around. Plus...through in the fact that he is 6'3" and plays shooting guard isn't going to let him be a dominant player either. This is not a franchise player. He's a scorer and yes, great defender for his position, but no, I'd pass.
Eric Gordon plays like dwade. Lamb is the one who plays like Kmart. Gordon is a better scorer than kmarts ever been he can create his own shot and get to the hoop and dunk on u at will plus he had great court vision. He would avg 5 assist a game on Houston. Don't under sale air gordon dude can be the best 2 in the game in a yr or 2 lamb nobody knows. There's a reason he's gonna get te max dude can ball and be the franchise dude if he shakes the injury bug.
First, big if on the injury bug. Second, Huh? Lamb has a 6'11 wingspan with room to grow at only 20. Is 6'5" to boot. And a look at some defense stats from DraftExpress... Shooters were only 30% when guarded by Lamb and 70% of shots against him were jumpers. And because of his incredible length and above average vertical to boot, you can see him guarding some of the smaller SF in the league. He also showed real good instincts guarding the passing lanes.
Agreed.....but honestly ....we have bigger worries at our PG spot then to worry about a SG at this time....both martin and gordon are injury prone..... Dragic meeting with the suns.....SCARES ME
He's a great player, don't get me wrong, but what we need is a franchise cornerstone. Gordon isn't and won't ever be that guy. I'd be willing to give up a bit for him, perhaps even ONE of D-mo, Royce or Lamb but not two. Obviously, if we made a move like this we most likely wouldn't be done. But still, I'd like at the very least the Summer League to see how some of our prospects are looking.
