Given that Houston would be able to give him the best deal, couldn't Houston agree to a sign-and-trade if Howard says he won't re-sign with Houston? That would allow Howard to max out his contract offer and allow Houston to get something for him after one season (assuming he wouldn't sign long-term with Houston).

Sign and trades don't work like that anymore with the new CBA. The team with his Bird Rights is the only team that can give him that extra year.

Thanks, my mistake. Well, I still think it is worth the risk. I guess D-Ho would really have to want to go to Brooklyn to give up that extra year. Especially given at the end of his next contract without the extra year he would be 32 if I am remembering his current age correctly and he likely wouldn't be getting a max deal at that point.

He won't be gone in a year. Dwight Howard is handling this about as poorly as he can, but when he's faced with walking away from over 30 million dollars in the offseason, he will bite his tongue and sign the extension. He's all talk because he thinks he can scare everyone other than the Nets from trading for him, just like Carmelo did before him.

I just had a heart attack. I thought it said Rockets trade for Howard at first.

But meh, ofc trading for howard should work, but one can only hope.

How old is he? And you expect him to truly understand business? He expressed what he wanted and because of the whole Lebron/Bosh incident he got thrown in with the same BS they created. I'm not a fan of DH as a person but I don't dislike him either, I would however like to see him suit up as a rocket. That being said, I think he opted in thinking it would show better on his character to be committed instead of being treated like the other two. I do think he is regretting that decision. But I think the media is blowing this up more than it is, not DH. But what do I know, the media never spins stories to create drama.

exactly Dwight is huge in Asia

Yao or Hakeem could talk to him, about the possibility of sucking and not winning a ring in NJ/ Brooklyn, and or coming to Houston and being paired with a Dragic and Gordon

thats actually a very good point

But what if the Nets still dont have an offer than Morey likes, its gonna be the same circus. I think Yao or Hakeem could convince him to stay in Houston

Man, if Houston could somehow land Gordon and re-sign Dragic also, that would be huge. Tough to walk away from that if you were Howard.

What if a draft pick doesn't want to play here - would you just not draft them, even if they're the clear best player available?

If you want to build a contender and expect every player to be overjoyed at playing in Houston at the first moment of their acquisition, you are the one living in fantasy land.

I think if that happens, everything changes. Im sure Morey has told Eric Gordon, that their is a deal in place to land Dwight if you sign with us

Doesn't matter, players get traded all the time to teams they don't want to play for.

When a top 5 player who will be a unrestricted free agent the next year and your drooling over him to play for the Rockets and he doesn't want to be here your the one living in fantasy land. You control draft picks fate for a long time...You clearly didn't think that through..smh

But if Dwight Howard wants to go to a team without the necessary capspace, he'd have to go via S&T. So suppose hypothetically speaking Boston and NJ both want him, but NJ has no capspace. Then the Rockets can trade him to NJ, granting him his wish, while getting something in return.

So you're confident that Dwight will leave $30 million ($30,000,000) on the table?

Definitely. He just won't get that extra year. If there was no other option, I would offer him in a sign and trade for Bynum. If it had to be Brooklyn, I wouldn't mind Lopez and a bunch of picks.

Dude I was done with the Dwight trade when he clearly said Houston wasn't the place for him....You guys are drooling over a man who doesn't care about the Rockets. Let's say the Rockets do get him , more than likely he will find someway to get out of Houston and complain the entire time. Thats just not a smart move..but to each his own keep drooling

I'm not "drooling." I just want a change of pace. I want this franchise to be bold. If he complains and cries, then fine. Let him go, and let's rebuild properly. If he decides to stay, even better.
