everyone would prefer Noah over Asik...and he is such a high energy guy...gives everything out there on the court...
They'd be stupid to match, unless they wanna trade Noah. But I don't see that happining either. So unless they wanna pay 25 mil for a backup Center, Asik is gonna be a Rocket.
I hope the Bulls do match the offer and Asik stays in Chicago. I'm not willing to pay Asik $8M per season simply because of a supply and demand issue when it comes to big men in the NBA. He's a good player. Not $8M good, though.
They are stupid to match. Unfortunately thats what teams with delusional thoughts of competing for the Championship do. That and Morey has the worst luck or worst at making deals that other teams cant overcome.
i want the bulls to match, just so i can see all these kneejerk bulls fans who were saying the rockets are stupid for overpaying.. change their tune and try to convince themselves that asik is worth it, even being a back-up center on their team..
For those who think the Bulls will match. Ask yourself this. Do you believe Asik is worth 3yr/$38mil? Because that would be the Bulls price tag on the guy. If they amnesty Boozer to save luxury taxes, that's still the price tag because they still have to pay Boozer. From what I gather, people here either belive 3yr/$24mil is a "fair" deal or "vastly overpaid" deal. I don't think I've seen a single person thinking it's a "steal" for the Rockets. In that case, why would Chicago think Asik is worth $14mil more than that?
this is why i don't like wasting time on RFA.. Morey loves it… so when they do match and we are stuck with nothing as usual maybe you guys will stop blowing morey like he is a mad genius.. he hasn't moved any of our 3 vets, tried as usual but it "fell apart in the wee hours of talks", drafted our 11th and 12th PF in the draft, and hasn't offered the one guy we do need to offer in Dragic..
I think the Bulls can make trades to get themselves under the threshold without using the amnesty on Boozer. In reality though, the reason I think they will match is because I'm very pessimistic with the Rockets and expect this offseason to end up being a strikeout on Asik, Howard and Gordon.
I wonder if Derrick Rose will factor into their decision. He's injured, so 2012/2013 could be a wash for them, so they'd really only get two meaningful years out of Asik before they go through all of this again.
This is absolutely right. The more I learn about this, the more convinced I am that there's no way Chicago matches. Simply saying they'll amnesty Boozer as if they're free of any obligation with him at that point is missing the point they'll still owe him his money.
This makes no sense. One, which team would take on Asik's $15mil contract in an age where luxury taxes are punitive and when he's obviously not worth that much. And two, if the Bulls do trade Asik, they have to take back 85%(Bimathug help?) of salary so they're still paying someone a crap load of money.
