OK going for the throat? Who in this league ISN'T trying to win a championship? Other than the Raptors....
Yeah, with Adelman I suspect we would have been in the playoffs. We probably wouldn't have cratered the performance and trade value of Kevin Martin, and we wouldn't have Lowry asking for a way out. But, we wouldn't be contenders, so it doesn't really matter. Adelman's window isn't long enough, frankly, for him to still be here when it counts. So, would it matter if he coached us this season and we made the playoffs? The whole season became pointless when Morey's trade fell apart and we opened the season with the same core guys we had the year before.
I think our record would have been the same. I think we wouldnt know who Parson is due to playtime. Sammy and Camby would probably made the injuries worse.
The idea that Adelman wouldn't have played Parsons is ludicrous. Sure, Chase is his adopted child and he would have shown more resistance at first, but Adelman is no fool, he would see that Parsons was ready to play from the start, and that he would eventually outplay Chase to earn the starting spot.
Your assumptions which past has proved otherwise. Let me know if you need refresher on recent past players who didnt shine until they were.......lets say, forced to play.
We may have been able to get something decent for Martin and Scola, offense-only players who excelled in Rick's system. Also, Wafer wasn't forced to play. Landry wasn't forced to play.
Honestly . . . having him back is not enough I think we would have needed him to have more input on personell I did not like . . .and i might be misremembering . . but Morey traded guys and Adelman seem to act like he did not get the memo that was crap . .. they would HAVE to work better than that JVG never complained but . . I think Post Morey he had little to no say in trades I understand it is the GM's job but the coach's input should account for something Rocket River
Should I make a thread titled "Firing JVG - what if the Rockets didn't?" There is absolutely no need to talk about / wonder / complain what the Rockets did. It's not like we can fire McHale and talk Adelman into coming back. That bridge has burned. Move on with McHale.
I think the firing of the coaches is another - This is another department Morey is Mediocre at . . . Rocket River
Adelman is elite coach, was of the best. He and Popovich are what you can say pure, others not so much McHail is human garbage.
To be fair, McHale also had no training and camp and virtually no practices in a lockout shortened first season and the drop off wasn't nearly as much as many, including myself, projected. That was with the team's best player going into the year in Lowry missing a good stretch of the season. I liked Adelman and wasn't crazy about the Mchale hiring, but it's not like we are competing for a championship or not based on the coaching change. Adelman may have done some things better, but you could also argue that Parsons might not have even seen the court this year under him, much less started for most of the year. If Adelman was here I suspect the complaints would shift to why is Martin still getting playing time over Lee when he is playing terrible?
I'm not going to comment on which coach is better. I'll just say this, you can bulls*** in any way you want to make a coach either awesome or putrid. One can literally frame an argument where a coach can be however good or bad he wants it to be. The reasoning is very simple. Success can be attributed to players or coaches. While failure will always be blamed on coaches. Hence, a coach's value from any fan's perspective will always depend on how much a team's success should be attributed to the coach. i.e. development of Parsons, surviving without Lowry/KMart, etc. If you attribute these to McHale for keeping the ship together, then he's a good coach. If you think he had nothing to do with us being the 5th/6th seed til near the end of the season, then he sucks. In the end, I simply offer this. 2010: .515 win rate 2011: .524 win rate 2012: .515 win rate Translation: I don't give a flip about who's the coach until this team has the talent to actually contend.
