This almost reminds me of Marcin Gortat- a backup who was given a lot of money with the hope he'd turn out well. Magic matched, then traded him to Phoenix where he proved he was worthy of that contract. Hopefully, Asik turns out the same way (minus his contract getting matched).

Signed FAs can't be traded until after December 15.

yea this also reminds me of Stromile Swift who also was given a contract based on the assumption he will double his stats over 36 min…

    didn't turn out so well...

Jason Goff (covers the Bulls) on the radio in Chicago on The Score just said that he thinks the Bulls will match Omer......

However he thinks that it could cause problems with Gibson and Noah and their contracts.... expects Taj Gibson to ask for even more than Omer.

Said the Bulls are really concerned with who they would be able to find to switch from bigs to smalls like Omer did..... said he is exceptional at it, and it is a huge part of why the Rockets have wanted him so badly.

Stromile was mentally weak and gave no effort....... Omer is nothing like that.

Actually Asik would be pretty good D12 insurance 1. if he misses time with the back 2. as the 2013 starter if he walked

Except the Rockets aren't signing Omer Asik because of his "possible stats"... they are signing him because he's one of the best all-around defensive Centers in the league.

This is the greatest news ever. We do NOT need Kelvin Cato part II.

It'd be so nice if we could somehow end up with Noah out of all this.

Sounds like Bulls media/fans think they can scare off Morey prior to July 11th.

    LOL

Regardless of whether the bulls match, it appears they are going to lose two of Boozer, Gibson, Asik and Noah.

If I were them, I'd let Asik walk, keep Noah, amnesty Boozer, and re-sign Gibson.

Why would that scare him at all? There's nothing to scare Morey into doing/not doing.

I think the Bulls will match.

reasons why Morey is a high caliber GM...and we arent...

    1. made the right move by offering a qualifying offer to Asik as opposed to Hibbert. Hibbert is a better player...and Indiana was clear that any offer would most likely be matched!
    2. Asik, is as under the radar as players can get. Asik is a tru center in every sense of the word...his goal is to man the paint...get rebounds(offensive and defensive) and get occasional tip dunks...we have been spoiled in houston...Hakeem and Yao were once in a lifetime talents..but everyone that played us...had players like Asik(ie. Luc Longley type big bodies)
    3. perfect value for a center...considering that this is a dying bread of players...25.1 mil avg out to be like 8.3 mil per year...(which for a young under-recognized center is a really good deal)
    4. Some more big men i though the Rockets should target are Ersan(UFA) and JThompson(RFA - Kings)...If the Rockets can bring these players in...they should really look to moving picks like Lowry to Toronto for a future 1st round pick. Packing Martin, Morris and Jones to Memphis for a player like Gay.

    Our team would look like:
    C- Asik, Camby?, Thompson
    PF - Scola, Ersan
    SF - Parsons, White
    SG - Lee, Lamb
    PG - Goran, Machado

Instead of Lee - Insert Gay
