Roy Hibbert offered the max by Trailblazers a team that wants a starting center I see.

I'm pretty sure we still have our sights set on Dwight Howard as a starting center.

A team that wants a superstar starting center I see.

That's unfortunate - we are just dooming ourselves to 3 more years of mediocrity. What a terrible day.

I think Morey/Les are really screwing up the future of the franchise.

ok there is 1 example. But you have to be in the right place at the right time with the right contract. Those deals don't happen enough where you should plan on it or even keep it as an option. I could find oil on my property. Read about it happening to a guy. But I didn't buy my property with the thought if things go south, I'll get the oil out of the ground like that other dude did.

It was backloaded for a reason, a good reason, but that doesn't mean it will be an asset contract. It's not. He's ours for 3 years if the Bulls don't match. Occasionally you might get lucky but those lucky moments are rare and should be part of a plan.

It means that he has not officially seen the paperwork so he is using that technicality to not comment on the issue.... which means he will probably not comment until July 11, 2012....

What I find interesting is that Gar has backed off of saying they will match no matter what.

Anyone here thinking that we sign Asik, trade for Howard, then flip Asik at the trade deadline for Josh Smith to keep Dwight happy?

Asik alone will not screw up the future, even if he does not live up to it -- he is young though and should be solid defensively for a long time. You only do that by giving out max contracts to undeserving players (see Joe Johnson) or several very bad contracts (see Cato, Kelvin and Anderson, Shannon).

Good post. And certainly a possibility. I'm not a big JSmoove fan but I can see the possibility of flipping Asik if we acquire Dwight.

yeah, signing a true 7 footer who is fairly athletic and has proven to be a quality defender/rebounder off the bench is by no means going to hurt the future. He will always have value because of his size, even if he doesn't produce here like the rockets hope.

Yes, since you've been a member here for two years, 5+ years seems a long time. But some of us have already been here for 10 years of sucking. And some of use have been Rockets fans for 25+ years of which 20 years was sucking.

I will take the 5+ years of sucking with a chance for a game-changing players like the Bulls got in Rose, the CLippers got in Blake, the Heat got in Wade, that the Sonics/OKC got in Durant, that the Spurs got in Duncan, that the Lakers got in Kobe, that the Mavs got in Dirk, that the C's got in Pierce.

You look at the teams that are going no where fast in this league and whom do you think of? It's Portland, Phoenix, Utah, Detroit, Memphis. These teams have been decent but not great, decent for a long time. And then you have teams like the knicks that trade away all it's youth for some established but past-there-peak stars to try to patch together a champion.

You know what all of these teams have in common? They don't get high picks in the lottery!

You know what all the rising and top teams have in common? You got it - their team is centered around a high draft pick that they made or acquired when the player was coming out of college.

Why does this pattern exist you think? Why of all of 2 years in your infinite wisdom can you come up with to explain the simple reality that you and others deny????

Fact is we will always suck with this current strategy. That's why no one wants to come here. Because Morey and Les don't know how to build a champion. That's the fact. If they did, they would know you first find your star and then build around them, not the other way around!

He does because he will improve the team enough that we will finish at 41-41 yet again.

    CBA pros ?

not that I want to get into a Howard thread, but could Asik be included to Orlando or would that be prevented by rule? (I assume there is a 90 day provision or other such technicality)

It's not really expecting or hoping a deal like that comes around. I mean how many times do teams shell out draft picks or good value players to just tear it all down and rebuild by creating cap room.

And we also have the possibility of having him help in a McGrady like trade, where Kelvin Cato's loaded contract made the salaries match. Not comparing this guy to Cato but it's pretty good value, and even if he stinks it up, 3 years is not going to hold us back from really trying to find a better replacement.
