I like how everybody shouts to go young, but when we sign a young big man and draft Lamb everybody flips.

Didn't they already use it on Bogans?

They didn't exercise his team option.

They can still amnesty Boozer. But knowing he is a dead-man walking for the next 2 years would be kind of awkward.

Even though they amnesty him they still have to physically pay him. In essence, if they were able to match Asik and choose to keep Boozer, they would be paying each around $15 million in 2014-2015 ($30 million total). If they were to amnesty Boozer, their cap would go down by $15 million, but they would still be paying $30 million in salaries, except they would not have Boozer on the team. As it would stand now, look at it this way:

    2014 - Boozer and Asik for $30,000,000
2014 - Asik alone (amnesty Boozer) for $30,000,000
    2014 - Boozer alone for $15,000,000

i know! I'm sick and tired of him not going after the 2-way players available like Dwight..oh wait.. ok Deron.. wait.. ok I guess I'm tired of him not going after the 2-way players NOT available like Lebron and Kobe.

I know they're not available, but Morey sucks! He should be going after them HARD instead of doing other stuff to try and improve the team. I'm Team Lebron! Which one are you?

You know that teams that want an expiring? The ones that want to dump some player who's making a boatload over multiyears and is not worth anything close to that and they want a do-over. The only way we'd use it is if the sweetner is better than the pill. People here way overvalue expiring contracts. We have them all the time and we don't get much for them. Though we did get Fisher and a Dallas pick for it last year, but eating a small contract (which was even better because Fisher agreed to terminate the contract) for a pick is easier to do than trading a 14+ million dollar expiring. Those are hard to use because the pill is usually very large and bitter.

You don't make this deal thinking, that 14+ million dollar contract will be an asset for me later. You better just plan on paying the man, get the 8 over 3 cap benefit and hope for the best. But to me that last year just means that if the Bulls don't match, which I don't think they will, then Asik is a Rocket for the next 3 years like it or not.

Cap hit for the Rocket will be 8/8/8 even though his salary will be 5/5/14. Everyone else, Bulls, team he's traded to, etc, will get the 5/5/14 cap hit which matches the salary.

But can you get better value next year and find a replacement for Boozer if they amnesty?

Probably not. Their team will take a hit on the court. That is not what they need to compete against the Heat.

CF is impossible to please actually. Do you know how much whining there would be on these forums if we "tanked", and it took 5+ years to get a #1 pick (not all that unlikely), and 5+ years to develop that pick to the point where we were contending for championships? Do you think ClutchFans would put up with 10 years of sucking?

It's easy to say right now that you'd rather suck than be average, not so easy when you're actually going through it. The fanbase would be cut in half, including this forum.

I was hoping they would go after Speights with a deal like this.

    I don't think Chicago matches.

We are overpaying, but you almost have to for restricted free agents.

It's funny because I've been a die-hard Rockets fan since I was 9, and I've been reading Clutch since the beginning. But I haven't posted until recently because I constantly get frustrated by the lack of perspective by some posters.

I, for one, am very happy with the current direction of this team. We're finally going young and smart instead of trying to "win now." Moreover, there's enough proof to show that tanking doesn't work. Bad teams stay bad, good teams stay good (even though bad ones may have good years once in a while and vice versa). And Morey is nothing short of incredible with what he's done with this team. Considering T-Mac and Yao's inopportune injuries plus contract bottlenecks, I couldn't be more happy with our direction.

The draft got us some very good talents in a deep, deep draft. If we have four solid offensive weapons, we can afford an offensive liability in Asik who'll be better than majority of big men on the other end. But even if he doesn't work out, he's signed for three years. By then, if Lamb, White or Jones become legit, we'll have other players wanting to come here. We're not the Knicks or Lakers or Heat. Nobody wants to come here. And we haven't been able to afford a culture of stability because our team hasn't been able to find an identity post-McGrady/Yao.

Is it possible we're finally finding it? Feels like it. I'm excited. Forget Howard. I don't want to support an indecisive crybaby like him anyway.

This also indicates that Howard is not going to be targeted by Rockets if Bulls will not match this offer?

Seein we are going for asik Gordon signing rather large contracts does that mean we are not going for dragic and keeping Lowry. And if we are still trading Lowry who is targeting him???

Honestly I don't see why the Bulls want to match. They already have Joakim, and Asik would be their 2nd highest paid player in 2014. Guy is just a backup on their team. They already have Noah!

Chicago's general strategy tends to go the way of match then trade.

In this case, they have already been shopping Deng and Noah hard. Their preferred strategy is probably to keep the cheaper Asik and dump Noah to save money. However, the general lack of interest for Deng and Noah may scare them off matching. They would dump Boozer in a heartbeat if they could, but there'd be no way that's happening and Rein$dorf won't amnesty or pay tax.

Two very good points that are keeping me optimistic about Asik.

Thank You. Those same people that want to tank are the same ones that will b**** and moan when we win 12 games and become the laughing stock of the NBA. They say they will buy tickets and go support the team when this happens. Yeah right

I thought I remember hearing that Jefferson might be available. Seems like he would be a good fit with Asik.
