Huh?? Weren't we one of the teams with a lot of cap space or is all that money wasted on 1st round draft picks or what?? How can we sign Camby, Dragic and or Lee when we have $0?? Doesn't make sense.

Bird rights and cap holds. The Rockets can have cap space if they renounce rights to their own FAs, but they are not planning on doing it unless necessary.

Alright, so basically we were never really a player on the free agent market and the signing of Asik eliminates our chase of any other free agent in Gordon or whoever?

Hypothetically, if the Rockets still go after DH, Asik may play significant minutes while DH recovers from back surgery. Moreover, if DH decides to leave in FA or requests a sign-and-trade at the deadline, at least we have a serviceable center ready to jump in.

What are the chances this turns into a S&T involving CLee to guarantee this signing?

Asik would have to agree to less overall money but can benefit from player options if he wants back himself on his next contract.

The max the Bulls can give him to S&T:
5 mil, 5.2 mil, 5.5 mil (player option), 5.7 mil (player option) = 21.4 mil overall.

Alternatively, the Bulls sign CLee, but both sides agree not to match their respective RFAs.

No. They are obviously still chasing Gordon. Can sign him to a max offer sheet if the either make the right trades or simply amnesty Kevin Martin. However, the safer route would be to work out a S&T with New Orleans.

You can have only 1 option year. No economic reason for him to take this deal.

I like Asik, I hope Bulls don't match. One of the weakest, I mean very weak position was center. We lost a lot of games with no muscle at center, Patterson is not a solution there and Camby is never a completely heal player. We will have a competitive team, we won't be the Hornets, Magic, or Bobcats.

Eric Gordon is not worth the max. We do not want to become the new Atlanta Hawks, a team with solid mediocrity.

We have the perfect situation for tanking, no all stars, etc.

We should leave cap room open, tank, get the #1 or #2 pick next year, and get a free agent to sign with us.

Can't "leave cap room open" if they sign Dragic. Cap room exists on a temporary basis.

You can't guarantee gettng #1 or #2 pick under lotto system and given the existence of many other tanking teams.

Why would a good FA want to sign with a team coming off of a tanking season? What FA are you talking about? Are they better than Gordon?

Absolutely, but the org refuses to consider this option even though it makes the most sense.

Good news. Perkins type of center. You need size at times to slow down the offense. You need rebounds if they are grabbing offensive rebounds over your back and out hustling you. Hustle can only do so much against size. Morey finally needs to get some of his targeted guys. Thats the bottom line. He needs to stop striking out and forming his plan.

No there is not. We can't send them compensation in order not to match. This is crystal clear in the CBA, and has been stated multiple times in this thread.

And there is very little, if any precedent, of a player reneging on a verbal agreement during the July Moratorium because of a better offer. It just doesn't happen. Please show some examples of this happening.

If you all recall, I posted on this exact scenario last week. It was along the lines of 'Hibbert will say No, McGee will say No, and some obscure NBA'er would say Yes simply because the Rockets offered WAYYYY too much money to him.

    Congratulations Daryl.

Obscure because you don't know him or because you don't hear his name on ESPN? This obscurity happened to have the 6th best rebounding rate in the NBA. No, that won't get you a whole lot of notoriety on ESPN because it's not terribly flashy, but he has skills the team is sorely lacking and will make a defensive impact.
