I like this deal, hopefully the Bulls decide not to match and the Rockets get him. Basketball wise he brings much needed toughness to the front court. Very good defender with good rebounding skills and a decent shot blocker. If he can develop any kind of offensive game he will be a very serviceable player. Him and Camby gives the Rockets a very decent rotation at center. Hopefully they are done with the stupid Scola/Patterson lineup that got murdered on the boards.

In 1997-1998, the Washington Wizards had a 2nd year big man who averaged 3.1 points and 4.8 rebounds and 1.1 block shots in 16.9 minutes a game. He was a deficient offensive player who shot only only 37% from the FT line.

He left for a different team and increased his MPG to roughly 25, and then up to 35 MPG after joining yet another team. His per minute averages kept up.

I agree that McGee has ridiculous upside. If he could find a coach to help him put it all together he could be a top 5 center in this league. I wouldn't be mad at all if the Rockets lost out on Asik and get McGee as long as it wasn't too big of a contract.

Read that insider article because Morey just owned the Bulls.

The Rockets would NOT have to pay $15 million in year 3. The Bulls would if they matched. Morey found a loophole and the $24 million would be averaged out over 3 years for the Rockets (with annual 10% raises I'm assuming).

You guys saying the Rockets are paying all this money for 3 points...defensive big men are hard to come by in the NBA, especially young ones with potential. He only played 14 minutes last year so he could average something like:

    30mpg
    8ppg
    9rpg
    1.6 bpg
    1apg
    1spg

Don't forget how much a 7 footer can anchor the defense. Remember the Rockets were top 2-5 in defense until Yao retired. He didn't get many blocks but he changed so many shots just by being a seven footer next to the rim.

No need to put up specific cases. In general players tend to play better with big minutes rather than spot ones. If Asik comes into camp as the featured center, practice and get familiar with our starters, he should actually play better than in Chicago.

Asik has issues with injuries, stamina, and offensive liability, but most certainly not with his number translating.

Big men take longer to develop and we're getting one who has improved each year after being coached by a premier teacher of defense in Thibs and his staff.

I'm trusting the kid is ready to take the next step up and we are going to be able to reap the benefits of what Thibs has started.

    Good move.

IMO, it's just another typical Morey move where he thinks he's smarter than anyone else. This is a bad bad bad move and will not pan out.

Gibson doesn't become a free agent until after next season.

Yeah, I'm not feeling the Asik love, either. Hope I'm wrong, though.

Wow - you would think there would be some reasoning or supporting facts there but that is just your opinion and not much else. Way to sway everyone with your stunning arguments
