I would rather just offer McGee a near max like contract.

Think this is too much for Asik

Im just shocked that people are still talking about the deal being 4 years or the deal costing the Rockets 15 mil over the last year.

Also, Im not big on the Asik bandwagon, but its annoying when people are commenting that we are paying 8 mil a year to a guy that averages 3 ppg. Dumbest argument ever...if Asik's strength was offense, then yes, I'd agree. The guy isnt on the court to score, so it doesnt matter if he never scores a basket. He's getting paid to prevent the other team from scoring. Kevin Martin gets paid 12 million, but allows his matchup to score at will. Same thing, just vice versa with Asik.

I'm down with the deal. Hope we pull it out. You guys complaining just want Mo Taylor, Derek Anderson, or Stromile Swift all over again. Get over it.

And those same people will continue to b**** and whine about how we don't have a center.

    Serious. lol

I think hes a good pickup but hes just a backup C in my eyes.

Not worth it to throw that cash at him, he can just pretty much defend the paint and thats its.

I mean hey if we are trying to suck next year, which is what im thinking the Rockets are trying to do, if McGee blows alright awesome we suck, if he gets with his upside and talent then holy **** we have a pretty good C that will hold the 5 position for a couple seasons. Into our other picks develop.(Lamb,White,Jones)

So you'd rather invest $54MM in McGee over 4 years than $24MM in Asik over three years?

They can match, but they either have to pay tax or make other painful decisions to cut payroll. Depends on whether they think Asik is worth it.

In the end, the issue is the cost of Asik is much lower for Houston than it is for Chicago-- to a large degree due to the fact that Chicago has so many long-term big contracts that take them close to the tax territory in the upcoming years.

The max the Bulls can offer Asik without matching an outside contract is 4 years, $25 mil. If they want to pay Asik any more than that, they have to match an outside offer-- which will not be "cap friendly" to the Bulls. There is no reason for Asik to take such an offer because it's for less money.

rumor was they planned to trade Deng. If they do that, they might be tax free

Asik reminds me of a taller Bobby Jones; check out this short YouTube on Bobby Jones who (for all you pups) played for UNC and was a First Round pick of the Rockets but chose to sign with Denver of the old ABA:

Morey had to make a deal with a serviceable center after the draft day debacle.

Is he better than Dalembert? Younger, but not an intimidating shotblocker that Dally showed on his good days.

we'll see ... just ship out Martin and Scola and play the young guys

not sure exactly, he is not necessarily worth a max if you know what I mean, just last I read he wants a max,but everyone pretty much knows not many teams will throw that at him. Im not good with the contracts and numbers 10-12 for 3 or 4 years?

just an estimate its not like I think hes the second coming of Hakeem or Ewing or some ****. lol

Asik is better than Dalembert for a number of reasons. He is still improving, he is far more consistent than Bear, he is actually a better defender.

Essentially this is a 2 year 17 million dollar deal, because we declined Dalembert's option by trading him.. AND we were able to move up 2 spots to get Lamb.

The length of the deal makes the contract moveable.

Zeller sucks, and may be a better offensive center, but will never be near the defender.

They can certainly trade Deng, Noah, Boozer or even Rose. But the existence of this offer probably takes away a good amount of leverage in the Bulls' trade talks involving salary dumping.

Also, while trading away Deng relieves them of luxury tax issues, they will still be without any cap room and will need to replace Deng, in addition to Rose, Korver, Watson, Lucas, and Brewer, on the court with only the Mid-Level Exception.

Like I said, it will require sacrifices one way or another.

I love McGee but his bust factor is a lot higher than Asik's based on his personality. I would take the risk of giving McGee $30MM over 3 years but not if I could get Asik for $6MM cheaper.
