AT LEAST a back-up is worth 25 million over 3 years?

If he had some promising offensive skills, I would say this is a good investment.

He has 0 offensive skill. Literally 0.

He's no prime ben wallace on defense. He's probably 50% of that.

I take it you haven't seen Dalembert play for a whole season? He was a net positive for maybe 10 games, max. And garbage for the rest. At least Asik will give you consistent effort, with potentially some room to grow. 30/30 GMs take Asik over Dalembert, which is why he just got traded to move up TWO spots in the draft.

Great post from the Bulls RealGM forum:

He obviously understands the value of a guy like Asik. Unfortunately, those griping will get their way because the Bulls will find a way to match us.

Dalembert wasn't all that great. He had his moments but he won't be missed by a team in our position.

I think he just did. Oh and don't forget Trevor Ariza.

You do realize that prime Ben Wallace was paid $16M a year by YOUR Chicago Bulls? 50% of that so I guess Asik is getting fair pay.

We're not contending anytime soon, so I don't see why we shouldn't take a flier on a guy. When Chandler & Hibbert are getting max contracts, Deandre Jordan's getting big money for being tall and Kwame Brown is getting 7 million a year- then yes, 8.33 million per year is well worth the chance to have a good center.

you say Dalembert wasn't AT ALL great... yet you think Asik is gonna be better? Asik is probably, at best, at Dalembert's level. I think Sammy D is better than Asik though

Uh, there are ALOT of other very good defenders on that team not to mention the best defensive coach in the league. There many reasons why they're good defensively.

Trevor Ariza was traded by the Rockets for an asset in Courtney Lee, which makes himself an asset as well, at least at the time. If he was overpaid, he would have been a liability, meaning we would have had to add value just to dump him, which was not the case.

Dalembert may be better right now, but he's reached his ceiling. Asik hasn't.

You just compared 2 All-star Centers [Chandler/Hibbert] and a guy [Jordan who is better than Asik] to asik.

Brown's 1 year was bad.. but it was only 1 year.. for 7 million. Asik iss going to get 15 MILLION in one year. Do you know how absurd that is? even an average of 8.3 per year is insane for a guy who had barely played.

Neither of us made the insinuation that the Bulls weren't, but who would you rather have guard Bosh or Howard? Boozer, Noah or Asik? And in what order?

    *facepalm*

    I wasn't talking about money.

Ben Wallace wasn't worth that money either. Clearly... how much did a DPOY center help the Bulls? Got us to the playoffs.. that's it. And it wasn't even really BECAUSE of him. It was mostly because of Kirk, Gordon and Deng.

How much do you think Asik is going to do for you?

Players in sports are paid on potential.

If the NBA didn't have a rookie scale Anthony Davis would be getting 10mil per year at least right now.
